Oh dear, I am clueless about what to wear

I am going for a weekend away with friends (and friends of friends, so a mixture of people I know and don't know). We're all staying in the same big house.

Someone has come up with the great idea that we should all dress up "smart" on the Saturday night and get a takeaway. This is fine except that dressing smart (other than smart for work) is not something I do these days and I have no clue what to wear. My wardrobe consists of scruffy jeans, not so scruffy jeans, a couple of knitted dresses and a couple of nice dresses that I might wear to a formal occasion. So probably nothing appropriate ... Several of the group are always dressed very fashionably so I don't want to look like the poor relation.

Any hints/suggestions very gratefully received.

if they are thinking Peter's Friends style smart then a formal dress should be fine, maybe check what they had in mind?

One of the knitted dresses, teamed with tights and boots dressed up with some jewellery/scarf? I think that's fine, bearing in mind you're staying in having a takeaway nobody's going to say anything.

How about Jeans and a silk blouse with heels. Casual, but you've made an effort?
