18th Birthday Present- What would you want?

My superbly lucky 18 year old niece will be getting a big present from her parents insanely jealous, and as I am the closest family member to her age, and the most stylish my advice has been sought!!

They are pretty sure they want to get her a bag, but are also considering jewellery. My brief has been something classic and timeless, and there is no price limit atm.

I have had a quick look, and would love your opinions.
Very on trend, do you think might date?
Definitely a classic
Chloe Paraty
Better colour?
Chloe Aurore
Too brief case like?
Alexander Wang
Is straying for leather a Bad Idea?

Gorgeous but a bit boring?
Ditto above
She has auburn hair so would look lovely
Very pretty
More fun

Didn't realise there was so many Blush TIA

Don't have time to look through all the links but something classic from Tiffany's?

fitflopqueen · 26/01/2011 00:12

my DD also coming upto 18, the list is on the fridge - very short, either the Mulberry tillie in blush (cant link) or a Tiffany necklace - one of the padlock type, so you are on the right track

madammecholet · 26/01/2011 09:30

if money were not an issue, I would buy this:

Gucci Pelham

bambiandthumper · 26/01/2011 10:09

Ooh I love that madammecholet, thats very good to know fitflopqueen

tillie bag found link

miche8 · 26/01/2011 13:08

i haven't looked at your links but something from tiffanys would go down well. I've finally bought myself aged 32 the tiffany bracelet i wanted as a teenager and i've not taken it off. Or how about a watch?

bambiandthumper · 26/01/2011 13:09

Its lovely isn't it

bambiandthumper · 26/01/2011 13:11

miche8 she has a fair amount of stuff from Tiffany, and lots of her friends have stuff from there so her parents are keen on getting her something a bit 'different'.
They didn't think she would want a watch.

I am so jealous of 18 year olds nowadays...can you imagine 15 years ago having all this/asking for all this at 18 Envy

bambiandthumper · 26/01/2011 18:28

Yes she is very lucky, but I am really looking for opinions on the links in my OP! :)

Am trying very hard to think like an 18 year old rather than a haggard 32 year old but think for the bags:

Mulberry Alexa
Chloe Paraity in Dark Brown
Proenza (though might get dirty quite quickly being grey suede and prob sitting on dirty pub/club floors)
Guccie Pelham (looove it - I want it!!)

None of the jewellry in your link really appeals to me (or the 18 year old me), sorry.

palomadove · 26/01/2011 19:25

My dd would've loved one of these

But had what we could afford, which was this

palomadove · 26/01/2011 19:29

And of the ones you've posted, the Enchanted ring is beautiful - I think any 18 year old would love it - but that's quite a bit less than most of the bags.

The Gucci Pelham would last a lifetime, gorgeous!

Lucky, lucky girl.

VJ1983 · 26/01/2011 19:45

The Alexa or the Pelham. Jealous!

beijingaling · 26/01/2011 19:45

I wouldn't go the bag route but only because she will want to use it every day and it will start to look tatty no matter how carefully she cares for it. It won't be something shell have in 50 years time.

Jewelry on the other hand she will.

What about something from chambers and beau

FaffTastic · 26/01/2011 19:51

Van den berg jewellry can be nice and might me a style that young 'uns might also be into. Shop just off carnaby street if you're london based. They seem to be changing their name though and new website doesn't seem quite ready

KenDoddsDadsDog · 26/01/2011 19:52

Love the Pelham!
Have you looked at Anya Hindmarch bespoke - they will emboss a message into the bag for you!

FaffTastic · 26/01/2011 20:02

Re my post above, van den berg's website ahs changed to:
