I have just found out that DH has arranged a surprise get together to (belatedly) celebrate a significant birthday. It will be happening this evening.

Whilst I am very happy that my usually apathetic in the arranging things department DH has done this, it has left me with a total panic about what to wear!

DH hasn't fessed up. Twas revealed via a friend accidentally :(

It is to be a casual get together but still, tis my event and I would like to look good!

Dont want to go and traipse around shops today so have the following options:

Warehouse tartan dress but with predominantly black background rather than red

Anthropologie dress

Red dress from Oasis

Next question: I have a lovely tan.....can I get away with shoes/shoeboots and no tights? Obviously not with the Oasis one, since it is far too short (mutton-tastic with bare legs!) but the other two?

oasis dress

sod the tights - if you have a tan, flaunt it :)

OR, I can forgo the dress options and wear black skinny trousers with either: dove grey shrunken blazer or navy sequin shrunken jacket, teal or white tank.

Book yourself in for a blow dry as well. Oasis or Warehouse, both lovely. Shoes and no tights - yes. Showboats and no tights - no.

Have a great night!!

I'd go for the last option (black skinny trousers with dove grey shrunken blazer and white tank) you'll look more like you've been surprised and just dress fabulously on a random Friday. The dresses are good but it'll be obvious you've been tipped off...

HettyAmaretti · 21/01/2011 09:19

yy to the blow dry idea. Good one.

tulpe · 21/01/2011 09:19

thanks both.

have just booked a blow dry for this afternoon. Have also arranged for nail tech friend to pop over and give my poor nails a quick file and polish!

Wips - the shoeboots I have come very low down on the foot - more shoe like than boot, iyswim. Is that still a no-no?

Oh I do love DH for doing this but at my age I feel like I need a bit of warning to do glam!!

oh scrap all that skiiny trews and sequin jacket :)

are we helping? Wink

tulpe · 21/01/2011 09:21

agree hetty - thats why I thought perhaps the Warehouse rather than the Oasis (which I last wore with all my friends on Christmas Eve). I also really like skinnies and jackets - kid myself I am rocking a cool look a la Kate Moss :o

MayorNaze - yes definitely helping!

I guess I need to look like I would on a usual friday night out with DH. I do tend to dress up because I spend the rest of my days in jeans. However, it is January and not sure that I would wear my Oasis dress to a pub in January....Hmm and DH whilst pleased to see me in anything dressy would perhaps also be a bit Hmm

I am now torn between the Warehouse (which I think looks a good "date dress" and therefore acceptable friday night wear) and the skinnies and jacket (which is my default setting, tbh)

Yes, of the dresses I'd go with the whrehose one too. But if you wore it on Christmas Eve it'll be a dead give away.

You need to look casually and surprised-ly fab.

HettyAmaretti · 21/01/2011 09:26

Oh, OK, your DH say you're going out on a date but wil surprise you with a party.

Mmmmmmm. Still think trews TBH.

MayorNaze · 21/01/2011 09:26

no not the warehouse one but only because i want it Wink

trousers and sparkles deffo casual enough to look surprised but smart enough to look appropriate:)

tulpe · 21/01/2011 12:47

thanks ladies :)

Am lining up the tartan warehouse and the trousers and sparkles jacket and will wear whichever the mood suits at 6.30pm!

thanks again.
