A good DIY highlighter?

I've decided I want to highlight my hair. I'm fairly blonde which highlights naturally in the summer. But it seems to be getting darker in this grim winter.

I can't afford the time or the money to go to the hairdressers and to be honest when I've been in the past I've never really noticed a massive difference - the sun has always done a better job!

So having never highlighted my own hair before I have no idea which is a good product. Does anyone have any recommendations or ones to avoid?

DON'T do it at home, esp if you've never done it before.

Go to your local college and get the trainee hairdressers to do it. My local college is about £5. They are under supervision and practice on dummies first, so don't worry. If it goes wrong, they'll fix it for free.

If your hair just needs brightening, maybe just just go for a semi all over and a few highlights to frame your face.

Thanks I didn't even think about that option.
