Skin tags!

I seem to have accumulated a lot of skin tags since I gave birth to DS! I know I can go to the doctor to get these frozen off but it seems a bit vain - has anyone used the tying thread around them method? Any advice on removal I hate them!

it works!

my mum did it!

Go and get them frozen or burnt off - the thread tying only works on really big ones!

I have loads - got a ton when pg with DS and now growing some more with this pg.
Once I've had the baby and lost the baby weight (so 6 months or so) then I'm going to get them all taken off as I hate them at the bottom of my neck especially.

ClaireDeLoon · 20/01/2011 22:59

Why do they happen with pregnancy? I have no DC's but have had a few appear in the last 6-9 months and assumed it was an age thing.

I've started getting them in my late forties. I snip mine off with nail clippers before they get too big.

TFS - ouch, no? Shock

My GP told me treatment wasn't available on NHS and I should go home and tie cotton around it. I don't think so!!

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 21/01/2011 00:12

Oooh I'm going to do that with mine (the thread not the nail clippers!). Will report back - any idea how long it should take?

Monadami · 21/01/2011 00:45

My GP said it would take a couple of weeks for the tag to shrivel and fall off. In the old days they use to use a horse hair to tie around the base of a tag. I guess you would have to trim the ends of the thread close to the tag so it's not visible to everyone?

my DP calls them Molding Flash Grin

I had some recently removed privately and am so glad I did as they were really annoying me. If you have private medical cover, get a dermatologist referral and say that they are bothering you when you get dressed / getting in the way - they should remove them for you then with the insurance co paying (assuming they are bothering you that is!)

i think mum left the thread dangling to tighten it.
a couple of weeks sounds about right.

TheFarSide · 22/01/2011 00:37

Alibaba no, nail clippers don't hurt that much, no more than plucking eyebrows (as long as skin tag is still v small). Better than wandering round with little bits of thread hanging all over your body.

I had mine done at a beauty salon, using an electrolysis needle.
They put this very very fine needle through the neck of the tag and cauterise it. This means it is sterile and falls off within a week.
Quick and painless and not expensive either.
This was about 6 years ago though, and two pregnancies later, I need this new crop of them done.
