Spanx - any good?

I've just bought this dress but it's a bit clingy and my lumpy bits show in it - tights aren't industrial-strength enough to hold me in; do 'control garments' really work or will I just get equal bulges elsewhere?

I got a pair of Spanx last week to wear under a clingy dress. Extremely sexy cycling shorts style and they come to just under the bust. They take a bit of getting used to but I do think it smooths out the silhouette and feels supportive.

I bought this and was very impressed. I was going to get the high waisted pant type, but I have alot of fat on my stomach from below the bust so it would have just rolled.

I found the Maidenform one to be comfortable and held me in where I needed it, plus no roll or VPL. It also has an open crotch for toileting ease, ind you I would probably pull the whole garment down.
