What can I but now and wear when baby arrives that'll make me look nice?

I am 26 weeks and am SICK of maternity clothes. I can not justify buying more as this will be last baby and I've only got 13 weeks left (elcs at 39 wks).

So... What can I buy now and wear at end of April when baby arrives?

This is dc2 so am well aware I'll initially be big and my bf boobs were HUGE last time but the weight shifted after 6 wks (yes I was very lucky but bf a hungry baby helped) so something that'll cope with changing sizes would be ace! It'll probably also need to be bf friendly as I'm going to give it a go again.

I'm 5foot2, usually slim size 10-12 ish, with little legs and have a definate high street rather than designer budget.

Hope you enjoy a challenge! :)

buy now that should have read! Chasing a toddler and typing is maybe too much of a challenge!

Id say buy 2 or 3 pairs of leggings or jeggings for ease and comfort and team them with longish bf tops , mothercare have a few nice ones not too expensive like this Id buy a nice long waterfall style cardi to throw over the top like this then finish off with some nice comfy trainer/pumps a bit like this. Comfy and stylish for all that walking with the pram!

I would buy a couple of jersey maxi skirts, these Next ones look like they have a flxible waistline but not tried them on yet in store. I would buy about 8 plain colour and stripe cheapy vest tops and about 8 plain colour and stripey v-neck and scoop neck tops from h&m/primark/new look and mix and match the tops and vests for breastfeeding ease. Then chuck a longer length black or hot pink/red/bright purple cardie over the top for cooler weather. you cover the maxi skirt and bright colours trend and you can get the whole lot for less than £100.

gilly - I like the ideas but struggling to find long length nursing tops. Don't think I could have my bum so clearly defined in leggings without a long top over it Blush

sickonmyshoulder - nice skirt but too long on my stumpy legs for sure!
the vest thing is what I want to do last time but because boobs went so HUGE 32F I ended up in scaffolding and finding normal tops that covered boobs without straining and not swamping the rest of me was hard. Would really cheap places be more stretchy? (hate primark normally but if needs must...)

Told you I'd be a challenge!

Id buy a couple of these to wear over the top of the nursing tops. They are really lightweight so would be fine in warmer weather with a little vest underneath too

gilly oh i do like that cardi/ waistcoat thingy. i might head over to asda just for that!

I found my Boden Chelsea dress (in the sale so not too pricey) to be ideal for nursing in. You can wear it with a cami under it and just put the cami up and to one side.

Voice of doom here - I'd say there is no way you'll know what size or shape you'll be. So perhaps go for jewellery, accessories and fab shoes, plus a wish list.

soppypreggyloon · 23/01/2011 18:37

sickonmyshoulder Boden is not very me tbh and a knee length dress would look odd with my little legs! I can see why it might be good tho.

onimolap thanks for the realism! I'm pretty sure I won't be buying anything that doesn't contain a reasonable amount of stretch/ Lycra so should be ok with leggings and cheap vests for bf. :)

I think I'm sick of looking pg as I started expanding even before I poas! I felt pretty lousy about myself after ds and want to feel I have some options other than trackies and bf tops that are generally bleurgh. So shopping- or at least planning some shopping might help. Also just realised dc2 will be 6 wks max when I turn 30 so would nice to look ok for that.
