Excellent eyeliner?

I'm after an eyeliner with really good staying power, preferably waterproof. Not a pencil, I just can't apply it right Hmm

I've been using Dior style liner (liquid) but it's far too glossy for my taste.

I'm not in the UK and don't seem to be able to get better eyeliners from the high street brands. The expensive stuff isn't a problem. So, I figure it'd be cheaper to get a highly recommended but more expensive one than buying endless cheaper ones that aren't any good...

I've been using Estee Lauder Double Wear liquid liner and it stays put really well.

Before that I used Chanel's liquid liner and also liked that.

Less than halfway down the same page of this board...

answers to pretty much the same question

That's right HavingKittens, it's my tread asking for cheap recommendations, none of which I've been able to find over here. I'm now asking about more expensive brands, as explained in the OP.

There wouldn't have been a lot of point in trying to change the direction of the other thread, what with it having cheap in the title, an all Smile

I'll have a look at the one's you recommend 295.

I guess I was hoping there'd be a more or less definitive favourite, like with mascara (Lancome Hypnose).

Bobbi Brown longwear gel eyeliner is fab

Havingkittens · 17/01/2011 14:52

Fair enough. I see your point. Smile

I like the Shu Uemura one, although it's not waterproof so wouldn't recommend it to anyone with sensitive eyes. The best thing about it is that you can replace the cartridge rather than throwing the whole pen out and starting again which is more economical and environmentally friendly too. The brush is a bit thicker than the Chanel one which I used before so it takes a bit of getting used to at first but I really like it now.

MAC's Boot Black Liquid Eyeliner, which is a dip wand style with a felt tip applicator is good and very matte (as is the L'Oreal one I mentioned in the "cheap" thread).

MAC is great - I am using the Inkspill colour atm, and it does not shift at all

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/01/2011 15:00

The No 7 one which comes in the little ink pot. I tried the Estee one but it was no good for me.

I have a loreal superliner one at the mo, but it is glossy and I want matte. Very easy application however.

If you want some variety Tesco Make up do excellent liquid eyeliners in teal, purple and greym which cost pennies and are very good.

fishie · 17/01/2011 15:07

i have tried clinique at lunchtime - cod recommends. it is still on my hand despite some fairly keen handwashing with soap. am going to buy it i think.

and maybe this mac in smoky hair

HettyAmaretti · 17/01/2011 15:27

Mmmm, clinique I can get! Is it matte?

I love MAC but it's a day trip to get to the nearest stockist, either that or order from the UK. I like to test so that's only really an option for stuff I've used before.

Bobbi Brown's not available at all. L'Oreal, Bourjois, Rimmel (well all the highstreet brands) all seem to have a reduced range here. No Tesco. Gah.

I'm going to have to go to SpaceNK type shop with two toddlers in tow so it's good to narrow things down a bit in advance. Much as I'd love to tut about in there for a hour or two the DC can't hack it...

Who'd have thought it could be so difficult Hmm

smashbox do a great cream eyeliner that stays put

dottyaboutstripes · 17/01/2011 16:07

Clinique one is nice too. I have a purple one and it's easy to apply and stays put. Matte, yes.

Havingkittens · 17/01/2011 16:33

I had a look at the Smashbox pen liner one, it looked really nice but £22, gulp!

The MAC Superslick liner which is recommended a few posts up is described as 'wet look' so I think it might be glossy too.

beanlet · 17/01/2011 22:46

The MAC liner that comes in a tiny bottle with aproper brush (and not the felt tip, which I hate because it always goes on too thick) is totally awesome, black as black, and stays on perfectly all day (and night if you need it too)

pointsmakeprizes · 18/01/2011 17:25

make up forever aqua cremes - really easy to apply with a brush and they are waterproof - i spent a day on the beach with it on going in and out of the sea and it stayed put.
