Help me choose a dress...

lilacisinlove · 15/01/2011 12:55

My youngest daughter (11) is being confirmed in February and my adorable DP wants to buy me a new dress for the event (my ex will be there obviously and DP knows I am mega stressed and dreading it) and I'll also wear the dress for the theatre on our slightly early Valentine's weekend together the week before the confirmation.

I like this and this but I'm not determined to have something this colour, it's just a coincidence. I'm 5ft 4, size 10, no bust to speak of but great legs.

My worst nightmare would be something fussy and I don't want to wear black. Budget up to £80-£100 I think.

I love the first dress. It looks fab - you could dress up with some fab accessories. Will look fab in the summer too with flip flops - I really love the first!!

CeliaFate · 15/01/2011 15:03

Too fussy?

Simple but colourful!

Not sure about this

FaffTastic · 15/01/2011 18:00

LOve the 2nd dress that Celia suggested - think it would look great with the right accessories. Even black peep toes and black clutch bag.

Doigthebountyeater · 15/01/2011 18:18

I like your first choice Lilac. Celia's second choice also good - a bright colour will suggest that you are confident in your own skin.

lilacisinlove · 15/01/2011 18:51

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I like Celia's 2nd choice too, although I'd wear the purple colour rather than the pink. I don't own anything pink apart from the decorated bra I wear for the Moonwalk and I'm planning to keep it that way!

I like your first choice best too,you will look amazing. Have a great valentines weekend and feel very proud of your daughter x

I did some fantasy dress shopping last night and emailed this to DP - I like the purple one (Laila) and the navy and ivory one (Pearl). He likes the purple one best and said get whatever you like, it doesn't matter how much it costs Grin. I have never owned a dress that cost over £100 in my life, except for my wedding dress!

I like your 1st choice and Celia's 2nd.

Howver very much feel it would depend on your colouring. What is your clouring OP?

Clure · 16/01/2011 12:35

this?

lilacisinlove · 16/01/2011 13:05

clure, that's lovely, but I'm leaning towards something that makes a bit more of a statement. Firstly, because I'll be wearing it for DP and he helped to choose it (though he tells me I'm gorgeous first thing in the morning so is clearly biased) and also because my ex will be at the confirmation and there's a little part of me that wants to turn up looking stunning and putting a mental two fingers up at him.

I'm a pale-skinned brunette with grey-blue eyes...there's a pic on my profile on here.

At least, there is now...didn't realise it had disappeared when I changed my user name.

First dress is gorgeous and would suit a size 10 with great legs Envy

PoesAndFire · 16/01/2011 13:17

I love your first pick lilac.

AB12 · 16/01/2011 13:17

Grrr! Just looked at yr profile picture- you have my dream wish-for physique!

I hate you. Grin

Gillybobs · 16/01/2011 13:18

Your own first choice is beautiful

Clure · 16/01/2011 14:04

lilacsinlove, you have a fab figure! I do like your first choice-its very feminine although I'm not sure that I would say its a real statement dress. I like your Hobbs suggestions though!
How about this if you like purple
not sure if you like this, cream lace shift
50's style

lilacisinlove · 16/01/2011 14:26

clure, love that purple one. I've been avoiding sale stuff because we've planned our early Valentine's weekend to include an Oxford St shopping trip on the Saturday and have theatre tickets for the Saturday evening, and we'll be staying in a hotel Friday and Saturday nights. Me buying something online just doesn't fit in with the plan! I wish I had the budget to treat myself to that one anyway, just because it's lovely.

Don't like the Monsoon one, I think it's very little girlie but love the Hobbs one. I prefer Pearl but with your colouring you could pull off the other one easily.

eveningprimrose · 16/01/2011 16:30

I do still like the first Monsoon one and Celia's second choice.
Also think you would look stunning in the Hobbs purple.

lilacisinlove · 23/01/2011 00:16

Went to Westfield last night, hadn't planned to get the outfit already but they had that Monsoon one in the window (here) and we both liked it, so we bought it!

Also got this bag and this cardi in palest pink. The buttons are iridescent and not as dark as they look.

All I need now is some shoes!
