What to wear for filming ...

I can't quite believe I'm starting a thread in style and beauty as I'm pretty useless when deciding what to wear.

However, in a fortnight I am going to be filmed at work (as a teacher) for a training DVD which will be used to show to other professionals.

In between agonising about my lesson plan, I have started to panic about what to wear. What would look reasonable on camera? I am large (size 16-18) and will be sitting on the floor/bending over children/walking about during the lesson.

Please help.

I'd wear a pencil skirt and an empire line top so that it doesn't gape when you bend over.

Most importantly, wear loads of slap and have your hair done. The lights/camera make you look like an albino mouse if you're not careful.

What age children do you teach?
What do you normally wear for work?

I'd say wear your normal work stuff, make sure you're comfortable or it will show, and maybe have your hair done beforehand!

I would wear something fairly bland so that focus is on what you are saying and doing rather than your outfit.

I teach Y3 (age 7-8).
I usually wear a long skirt or trousers with a jersey type top. I wear a lot of black, usually with a big necklace. Also have some brightly coloured patterned tops to wear with black trousers.

LadyBiscuit - aagh - don't usually wear a lot of make up. Also, not sure a pencil skirt will be good for sitting on the floor with the children. But will definitely have my hair done!

I'd go with long skirt, jersey top, but nothing too patterned.

You do need to wear a bit of eyemakeup and blusher, but no need to go overboard ime

Okay, trousers will also be fine - as long as they're fairly narrow. The critical thing is that you don't have a gaping top and that sort of means empire line if you're not a skinny minnie. And you can't wear an empire line top with a gathered skirt/loose trousers because it will make you look fat.

I know it's a bit weird about the make up thing but you just need to emphasise your eyes properly - eyeliner, lots of mascara is all you need really. I'm not talking about blue eyeshadow up to your eyebrows, just emphasising your natural features a bit more than you usually would

Oh yes - CMOT raises a good point. No small patterns or stripes as they make the camera go funny

If it's teachers tv be prepared for them to come back to re shoot later- don't cut or dye hair or you will have to dye it back.

Thanks - definitely planning to follow this advice.

Can I just ask - should I wear black, a bright colour or a subdued colour on top? Am willing to go and buy something new (a shopping trip will be a good displacement activity instead of fretting about my lesson plan!)

i would wear plain bright colour on top

Bright is fine - all black won't show you very well.

Make absolutely sure there is no chance of cleavage showing when you bend over - you might want a close fitting cami underneath jic. Similarly, zero vpl pants
