It's rubbish isnt it.
I had my eye on a scarf, was going to use some birthday money to get it, but it isnt even in the sale.
Bit of a joke really.

brimfull · 12/01/2011 22:18

Good point, will have to remember to look then!

higgle · 13/01/2011 10:01

I have ordered a dress in clearance that is £39 and I really wanted for last summer - it will not date. There will be a further round of reductions later and I do have a 6 ply Aran cardigan that was eventually reduced to £105 from £350 so it is worth keeping on looking. Brora stuff always fetches really good prices on ebay so if you buy and wear for a year or two you will get quite a lot back for it later on.

I think the reductions are less than normal.

Will wait and see if they reduce further in a couple of weeks.

DirtyMartini · 13/01/2011 10:28

I agree, the reductions are usually a bit better than this. The shirt I wanted for DS is out of stock and the hat I want for DD is still £££ so, sod that.

They normally do do further reductions, so fingers crossed for that.

It's maybe to do with the VAT hike -- on the news the other day there was a commentator saying that some retailers will probably deal with it by giving more modest reductions than they might have otherwise, because they can't keep absorbing all the increases in overheads like cost of supply. I bet cashmere and textiles generally are one of the toughest places to be right now in terms of supplier costs.

higgle · 14/01/2011 10:07

Brora quality is the best - not just the cashmere - and I suppose that if they cut prices too much they can't afford to maintain that. If you have paid £xxxx for something and it is then 70% off in the sale straight away it does make you feel a bit miffed.

aquavit · 14/01/2011 13:18

they do usually do further reductions but it's rarely an amazing discount, and they often sell out of the popular colours

tbh I like brora so much I buy it (in small quantities!) at full price so even a measly discount is welcome

the clearance section is better but pretty thin pickings - I was pleased to get a big cashmere scarf (sorry, 'chartouche') which was half-price before it sold out, though.

higgle your cardi sounds like a brilliant bargain!

aquavit · 14/01/2011 13:19

ggirl have just seen that you wanted the chartouche - sorry didn't intend to gloat - keep an eye on the clearance section later in the year, I guess!
