Need some help from some capsule experts

Hello - I really need some breakthrough advice to shop my wardrobe for a wearable capsule for spring weather, with a view to a major, major cull. I can't (and mustn't!) buy anything else, well not before things go.

My problem is I don't know realistically how many of each thing, I actually need. I just know I need to seriously down-scale.

I'm pretty average build and height, back to a stable size 12, finally. I live in casual/smart gear; run my own business with the occasional need to suit up (so need variety here, as often meeting with the same people) - but casual day-wear is the priority.

How many skirts?
trousers?
dresses?
knickers?
etc

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has successfully done this and is happy with the result.

Cheers, maybe it's too big a question. I've been searching lots online and not really found a satisfactory answer, it's all this blardy 'crisp white shirt' bolleaux.

I could break it down and have a bit of a think aloud go...

I don't want to have to iron for me more than once a week, if at all

How many knickers does a grown woman need?
10 normal plus some special occasion sets - maybe 2? 3?

Jeans - 2 pairs
Trousers - 2 warm weight; 2 light
Jackets - 2?
Skirts - 3 above/at knee; 2 longer floaty
Dresses - 3, 2 daytime appropriate and 1 glam?
Tights - 6 ready to go, no holes!
Socks - 5 pairs
Coats - 3 (1 wet/winter; 1 lighter rain coat; 1 jacket)
Exercise gear - 2 sets

Tops, no clue
Sweaters/cardigans - no clue
Shoes, no clue

Any contributions, challenges or fleshings out gratefully received. Come on style-mavens, there's a gap in the market for this kind of pared down list - I'm convinced Smile

It depends so much on your lifestyle. I work full time and after exercise classes, dog walking and being to tired to do much I find I tend to have too many smart social clothes and not enough reasonably OK very casual ones. My wardrobe is bursting at the seams, but I am usually in old trackie bottoms and a sweatshire. For me I'd ike to have:

6 x suitable day to day outfits for work, + something a bit smarter for conferences etc.

2 x exercise clothes for gym and 2 for running.

3 pairs of jeans, 1 or 2 pairs of smarter trousers per season.

  1. casual skirt outfits i.e. denim skirt, cord skirt etc.
  1. 2 x going out outfits - e.g. Jigsaw or Whistles dress, with potential to dress one down for use at work later
  1. One evening dress - to be sold on ebay and replaced each year.

Barbour Jacket, wool coat, Anoraky thing.

This is already sounding way too much and it doesn't account for loads of the "essentials"
that are in my wardrobe!
