traditional christening gown for a boy?

My son will be 5 months old when he gets christened and i don't know what he should wear, i really don't like the little suits that all the shops seem to be selling- is five months too old for a boy to be wearing a traditional gown?

Not at all, traditional gowns are not gender specific and look lovely in photos. You can always change him out of it after that. Have a lovely day.

What about a sailor suit?

But I also love traditional christening gowns- 5 months is not too old at all Smile

My Ds2 was 4months and looked amazing!

I wasn't keen on the little suits and everything else was romper style, which is fine in the summer but not December!

My son wore a traditional gown at 12 months - looked gorgeous when he was being held, did look a bit odd when he walked in it. Five months is definitely fine.

My DS wore a traditional one from Sarah Louise. It was ivory cotton with pintuck collar and smocking on the bodice - very simple but nice for a boy. DH wouldn't let him wear the matching bonnet! He was 4mths. Regret not getting my wedding dress made into one for him.

Ok, i've decided to continue to search for a traditional gown- i'm still a bit concerned that he'll look like a girl but i feel quite reassured after reading your replies! Thanks! Now i just have choosing the godparents to worry about... families, eh!

i think a christening gown is lovely on babies - mine wore a family gown which was very special.
i personally hate grown up outfits (ie, little suits) on tiny babies - yuck! let them look like babies not grown ups!

by the way, re: godparents. DH and i had a rule that we only choose non-family as godparents. think my sister was a bit put out but i explained that as Aunt her status would/is always more important than that of a Godparent 'cos she's faaamily Smile. HTH.
