tire of new clothes so quickly

hi, just wondering if its just me but I have noticed that when I buy something/anything new to wear I usually go off it my the time I go to wear it for the first time or maybe after i've worn it once. I think i've always been like this but since money has become very tight its bothering me. I like what I'm buying at the time but go off it so quickly. Any one else like this?????

No - can't afford to be!!

I don't often do this but I have on occasion. When I buy new clothes I always keep the labels on until I have definitely decided to keep them. If I buy something and haven't worn it in the time allowed for a refund then I return it, as I figure that I can't like it that much.

Are you rushing when you buy stuff? why not go round the shops, make a list of what you think you like then go back the next day/next week and see if you still love it

I'm a bit like that. It's a dangerous (and expensive) habit to get into!!

I often hang onto stuff for a couple of week, trying it on a few times at home, before making the final decision whether to keep or return. Often common sense sets in (do I really need this?) before I actually wear it.

Or you could try charity shops for a guilt-free splurge?

I'm the same. I take ages buying something when out shopping (dh hates it), ummming and ahhing for ages in the changing room, agonising over whether to buy it or not only to buy it and hang it in the wardrobe unworn for weeks before finally realising I don't really like it after all, decide to take it back and then start a frantic search for the receipt and bag!!

I must try to do what Cybil says in future (and put my receipts somewhere I can find them)!

Wow! Can't believe people try something on, buy it and then decide they don't like it and take it back. I don't think I have ever done that with items I have tried on.

Maybe only buy stuff you really really like/ need? Don't go clothes shopping unless you actually need something - I mean, need a pair of trousers or a bra because your old ones are past it, not ooh I'm going to a party, I must have a new dress. Think of the money you'll save! Or do the capsule/ classic wardrobe thing and jazz up with accessories.

I take my mother shopping with me every time (in my head!): I look at myself in the changing-room mirror through her eyes and imagine what she would say: anything like "looks like a dressing-gown" or "brave colour choice" go back on the rail! My mum is supportive but shrewd, so she's quite a good mental shopping companion (iyswim!)

thanks ladies, think i'll put more thought into it and also not to rush is probably something I need to do. Luckily my daughter is the same size as me so she gets the clothes I go off - we have similar taste ie skinnes, tshirts, cardigans so at least they are being worn by someone. Problem is she has a wardrobe bursting with stuff and I have very little....

Cruella - I would say I probably return about a quarter of what I buy in a shop - sometimes I want to see what it looks like with another garment I own, or sometimes I'll buy two things and ask dh's opinion of which one I should keep. Or often I just change my mind once the purchasing frenzy has worn off and the guilt sets in! I just make sure I don't remove tags until absolutely the last minute (to avoid the OPs problem).

I also buy quite a lot mail order - then a LOT goes back, as I'll often order multiple sizes to be sure of a good fit.

I suppose I'm lucky that most stores allow me to do this. In fact, I would very rarely buy from anywhere if I couldn't return it.

I see what you mean, Cointreau. Actually sounds very mature and sensible!

I return at least half of what I buy.

Try it on in the shop but so many (Hobbs, phase 8) have slimming mirrors.

Get home try on in my no holes barred mirror. Then see if it matches other items etc etc

I live in a reasonable sized town- 10 mins walk and so it's easy.
