My suede boots smell. Help.

I can't afford new boots this year. I bought posh suede ones last year which would have been ok but for the fact that I was caught in a downpour. They dried out, but since then they have a horrible cat wee smell after I've been wearing them for an hour or so.
Nice eh?
Is there anything I can do about this?
Also, the heel is coming away. Can I buy heel glue or is it best to hand them over to a shoe mender person?

Thanks very much to anyone who can help.
I've got to do the school run now but will check back later.

Is it the insides which are smelling? If so, you could leave some bicarbonate of soda in them overnight, or for a few days - it gets rid of all kinds of smells. Don't know what to suggest otherwise, I'm afraid.
BTW, is your son still going to school in a dress? My ds is going through a superman phase at the moment but still insists on red nail varnish at all times. I think it's great!

Thanks satine, I'll try the bicarb. Dry I presume?

Spiderboy still passionately loves dresses, princesses, butterflies etc. I've managed to dissuade him from wearing dresses to school lately, but he still dresses up when he gets there, which is great. I've been dissuading him because, sadly, the teasing has begun and he has just started to mind.

I may try him with a superman outfit and red nail varnish. That sounds very stylish to me.

I would take them to a cobblers to fix the heel and they be able to suggest something or even do something for the smell.

Other than that go for the bi-carb and glue.

surgical spirit gets rid of smells doesnt it?
Use nail glue for the heel, but keep pressure on it until it dries
