how should I apply nail polish please

Whenever I have a manicure it lasts about a week, even when I take in my own polish for them to apply (so I can touch up if nec). When I do it (using a decent base an dtop coat, applying 2 - 3 coats of colour in between) it chips the next day. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? Should I apply the polish thickly or thinly? Is there some trick with the brush strokes? I've tried loads of different brands, top base costs etc and now some spray that's supposed to make it last but all to no avail :(

wish I knew, I have exact same problem. Good quality varnish, base, two coats, top coat. Next day, ruined!

Are you leaving enough time between coats for the varnish to dry?

I was taught (I used to be a beautician many years ago)to do each coat in just three strokes. One down centre of nail and one each side. Thinner coats are better, but you must allow each coat to properly dry before applying the next one.

I do leave it to dry - sometimes ages but definately until I can tap it withou tit feeling stick (or lick it with no taste). Have also tried reapplying when it isn't dry as an experiment but it still will not last.

how about applying a bit of sand between layers to give the varnish something to grip to?
