Work Clothes ...

Ater 4 yrs as a SAHM I'm back to work next week and urgently need some clothes. Eventually I'll be in uniform but until then I need something to tide me over. Will be working 3 days a week in a customer-facing position so must be smart. I have a good black trouser suit from when I worked before-children but the cut of the trousers just looks too old-fashioned so I think I'll have to start again from scratch.

Undestandably, I don't want to spend a fortune, I do need to look well and I would like whatever I buy to be wearable as smart-casual (ie. Sunday/Church etc) when I'm not working.

Oh, and will need to get suitable footwear too - I need a pair of long black high-heeled boots anyway to wear with nifty denim skirt which I've bought so want to factor these in as part of working wardrobe - although would prefer trousers to skirts. Am a skinny size 10 with a pot-belly!!

Open to suggestions please ....

if you don't want to spend a lot, I would go for getting a couple of pairs of black trousers and 3-4 tops ... M+S do some really good work clothes that are reasonable and this year their trousers are really nice...

I have just ordered these boots --

Thanks Mancmum ... really like the boots - must have a look at them when I'm shopping tomorrow

Does anyone else have any suggestions - please! Can't decide whether to go for a suit which I won't wear much afterwards or trousers & tops/cardigans - and that's the 'look' i'm not much good at - what would constitute a dressy/formal-ish cardigan to wear with trousers?

Anyone?

Milly although I have been back at work after maternity leave for a year I too am looking at my winter wardrobe in despair. I'm also working 3 days a week and we have a "busness casual" policy in our office. TBH I found it easier before it was introduced and I could just wear suits. So no advice really. I bought 3 pairs of black trousers at Next outlet (no changing room) and they are all going back! Serves me right for trying to be cheap.

I was thinking of getting a couple of polo necks and a pair of bootleg black trousers.

I've bought a couple of pairs of trousers from Next this year, slouch ones and grey wool check ones, really pleased with them. Might be worth a look.

Have you tried looking in the Additions Catologue?
Next sounds good

Depends on what you want to pay really

Try tescos and asda for trousers, great black ones for £6/£8. Don't bother with full suit, depends where you are working maybe, I used to wear one but was always too hot. Couple of blouses that you would wear else where once you have a uniform.
