Clothes for 12 yr old DS help

Hi - DS is just starting to get interested in how he looks. Before now hes basically worn Gap, Gap and a bit more Gap - but has noticed that other boys he knows are starting to look more 'trendy'.

They are at a mix of private/state schools and although some are still dressing like little boys theres definately been a change in the last few months.

I suppose if I could describe it it would be like 'young preppy' ????? Blush - clearly I havent got a clue Grin.

When i was at school we didnt start taking an interest in fashion till we were at least 15 - and even then it only really involved some pearl lippy and a blue eyeliner. i think even if i had a girl Id be a bit of a loss.

So where should I go for clothes for him. Boden, jack wills ?????

Thanks x

H&M mostly here although a few abercrombie hoody and t shirt bits and just ordered a jack wills t shirt he was after on the sale website. He likes vans shoes.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/01/2011 15:18

Apparently definitely not gap or Boden he says! I think maybe they are perceived as little boys' clothes.

appleslice · 03/01/2011 15:19

Well my DS (13) I either take him to H&M, Joules or he has hand me downs from his 16 year old brother which is Lyle Scott / Lacoste tops or GStar jeans

Hope this helps a bit.

kizzie · 03/01/2011 15:19

Thanks - will have a look at those websites.

he had a pair of vans in the summer - mainly because they were reduced when i saw them. i couldnt quite understand why he was so delighted when I took them home as I previously hadnt heard of them !:-)

It depends on how much cash you want to spend.
The in brands are ones like Jack Wills, Superdry, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Franklyn and Marshall which seem to be the general uniform of my DS and his pals.

Saying that, high street stuff from River Island and Republic always mix well with the pricey brands.

kizzie · 03/01/2011 15:34

Thats great - thanks Scurry

Id buy one or two "logo" items (from superdry or hollister or such like), maybe a tshirt and a hoody, then mix it up with cheaper jeans and shirts/t-shirts from H&M . Keeps my 12yo happy anyway : )

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/01/2011 15:45

I ordered DS a small. But I think there's a size guide on their website?

kizzie · 03/01/2011 15:55

Lovely thanks everyone - good plan Gillybobs.

I feel distinctly poorer but very 'with it' now Smile x

Super dry, GStar, Republic, Topman.

appleslice · 03/01/2011 16:14

Yes Topman, I do what Gillybobs does as I know in a year or so mixing with the cheaper stuff will be a no-no and they want full designer gear thank goodness my 16 year old has a little part time job.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 17:50

DS is 11, and is poised on the brink clothes-wise. I can see some requests for hideously expensive branded stuff coming my way over the next year, so the longer I can keep him in H&M and Next hoodies the better. All his mates are starting to be seen in Abercrombie, Superdry etc., but have you SEEN the prices in some of these places??

bellavita · 03/01/2011 18:47

Just get it over and done with now CV Grin I have got two of them to buy for!! And DS2 only turned 11 in Nov.

Batteryhuman · 03/01/2011 18:49

MandM Direct. Name brands at greatly reduced prices. My teenage DSs swear by it.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 19:03

Thanks Battery. Have added it to my favourites for when the time comes!!
