coming to the end of my Dior palette in Ignito ( sp) which was £35. Not sure I want to spend that as have used 4 colours but not the 5th. They have also stopped doing that shade.

Happy to do cheap and cheerful or more expensive.

I use taupe shades quite a lot- not brown as such, more grey-browns.

Last time I tried some Bobbi Brown they made my eyes itch and I had to sell them on eBay ( shadows not my eyes!)

My absolute favourite is Becca - their cream eyeshadow, in Baroque, a taupe-y colour, is my everyday choice.

Also love By Terry eyeshadows - best to go to a Space NK and look at the colours. Laura Mercier are good too.

cabbageroses · 02/01/2011 14:55

never heard of Becca- who stocks it?

By Terry yes- but will be ££££££££.

Laura Mercier possible.

I have some Stila eye shadow which is very nice and stays on longer than anything else I have. It was a gift from DH so I'm not sure how much it costs. MAC is good too.

CuppaTeaJanice · 02/01/2011 15:08

I have a box from Virgin Vie. I only bought it because I went to a party and felt I had to buy something, but they are great - really nice colours and good consistency. It's a lilac coloured satin box with about 20 colours in.

i love loreal chrome. its stays on all day. it only costs about a fiver and has some great colours. i use the dark grey mostly.

Shhhh · 02/01/2011 16:06

MAC pigments. Esy to apply and to blend and fab colours.
Very glam even for daily use, I always get comments on them when worn..

JustAnother · 02/01/2011 16:07

I bought some Chantecaille before Christmas and I am very impressed with the texture and durability.

BelligerentGhoul · 02/01/2011 16:08

Gotta be Mac or Urban Decay imho.

twoboots · 02/01/2011 16:46

Bare escentuals mineral shadows are lovely...can be a bit of a PITA tho, but worth it I think, give such a lovely effect.

My favourite Taupes:
Laura Mercier in Topaz
Chanel Taupe Grise
Mac Copperplate (matte)
Mac Shale

cookingfat · 02/01/2011 19:02

Smashbox is my favourite make up brand. You can get it in most Debenhams stores. Great colours, lasts ages, good for sensitive skin.

BelligerentGhoul · 02/01/2011 19:10

Mac Shale is fab. I live in it.

Gillybobs · 02/01/2011 20:46

Bourjois eyeshadows are made in the same factory as the chanel ones and it shows! They are amazing imo and excellent value for money, highly recommend

Havingkittens · 02/01/2011 21:45

Sadly you can't buy Stila in the UK anymore. I have a really lovely taupe palette from them.

If you like having a palette of colours you can custom make a palette of 4 colours at MAC if you go to one of the free standing stores or order online, the department store concessions don't do them. If you like taupe/grey brown colours I'd recommend these 4 - Satin Taupe, Bark, Shale, Shroom/Retrospeck (depending on how shimmery you like your eyeshadow - Shroom is a neutral beige with a slight sheen, or Retrospeck is a cool beige gold which is very shimmery.

The Urban Decay browns palette is a very good buy too if you like warmer browns as well as the taupe shades.

BelligerentGhoul · 02/01/2011 21:48

I really want the Urban Decay browns set but they've never got it in stock when I'm in town. Grrrrr.

gregssausageroll · 02/01/2011 22:08

For browns then I don't think you can beat Bobbi Brown nude on nude.

Carrie06 · 02/01/2011 23:01

Tried rose gold by Laura Mercier yesterday - really lovely. Creamy formulation that comes in a tube - about £18.

polyhymnia · 03/01/2011 09:57

Becca (Australian brand originally, I believe) is great - just the sort of natural-looking but effective stuff I prefer. Also love their Luminous Skin Colour (like a glowy tinted moisturiser), which I use instead of foundation, and their Shimmering Skin Perfector for highlighting. But, I must admit, not very widely stocked. I live in London, so get it at Fenwicks or the Becca store near Brompton Cross. There's a list of stockists on their site, I see, and, if you do find products you like, you can then buy them online.

otchayaniye · 03/01/2011 11:32

Shu Uemura Brown 850 - shimmery brown grey violet. Looks good on everyone. Shame it always bloody breaks when you drop it though.

cabbageroses · 03/01/2011 15:31

Thanx ladies i will be checking out Mac and all the others- I can easily get to LOndon.
