Does anyone really wear a hat to a wedding anymore?

My sister is getting married soon , and she asked about the hat I going to wear. I wasn't going to wear one- which seems to have upset her. I don't like wearing hats- I find them uncomfortable, and they don't suit me. I didn't think many women wore hats to weddings these days.

I do.

Gracie123 · 22/12/2010 18:39

I always do, but that's because I love them and it's a good excuse to wear one.
I'm usually the only person wearing one. Most people do fascinators now.

You'd be the odd one out around here if you went without a hat. You'll look like you left home in a hurry and hadn't finished getting ready properly.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 22/12/2010 19:43

I do but I've been to loads of weddings and hats are not the norm any more, it's all fascinators and twiggy shit.

Casmama · 22/12/2010 19:47

Some do, some don't but it is entirely your choice. I find it a bit strange that your sister is bothered one way or the other but maybe she really likes the opportunity to wear a hat and doesn't understand you not feeling the same way?
Don't wear one if you don't want to.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 22/12/2010 19:49

lol at "twiggy shit"

Julia3000 · 22/12/2010 20:03

I must admit I hadn't thought of wearing "twiggy shit" in my hair! Maybe that would be an exceptable alternativeGrin! Is it just scraped off the ground, or is it made to order?

I haven't worn a hat to a wedding for years

Julia3000 · 22/12/2010 22:16

That's sorted then- no hat it is!

Thank god.

I love hats, but not wedding type hats. Fascinators make me want to vomit.

I've just been invited to a wedding, I was coming out i hives at the thought of 'the hat'.

I'm not sure that the family would forgive me though.

Oh, what the heck.

sue52 · 22/12/2010 23:40

I do. It's the one thing I like about weddings. Fascinators are for wimps.

Icoulddoitbetter · 22/12/2010 23:42

I do but I love hats. When I got married I encouraged people to wear hats but lots said they didn't feel comfortable in one and I certainly didn't get annoyed at them!

NewYearsResolution · 22/12/2010 23:43

Fewer people wear them, but as family of the bride you really should if anyone is going to. You take this one for the team.

PerEggnogAdNauseum · 22/12/2010 23:46

Me. Every time and every excuse. Turns a fairly ordinary tunic trousers ensemble into an 'outit' and keeps your mother quiet. What's to go wrong?

PerEggnogAdNauseum · 22/12/2010 23:46

Ahem. *outfit.

raspberryroo · 23/12/2010 18:37

lol - Facinators round here - but getting bigger each wedding I went this year
