The ones i try these days just don't cover my grey roots enough and i can't afford to get them done at the hairdresser. I have dark brown hair, and up until 2 yrs ago got away with semi perm. I am new to permanents, but none of them seem to coat it.

the best i have found so far is boots own, but it's not 100%. Movida is rubbish. my hair is very white. what do you use?

Have been using nice n easy 118 for about 4 years, covers grey well, good colour with no red in it.
If you do a search on here it's often recommended

I'm almost 100% grey at the front and probably 50% over the rest

if you can find a hairdressing wholesalers like Sallys buy the following

koleston perfect number 44/0
a small bottle of peroxide 9%
a bowl
a tint brush

mix equal amounts of dye and peroxide apply to roots only. that should cover it

piratecatClaus · 22/12/2010 08:29

that looks just the right colour netbook thankyou.

L'Oreal Excel 10 4.0 Natural Dark Brown does the trick for me.

moragdingdongbellingham · 22/12/2010 09:20

I've always wondered which ones to buy in Sally's and how to mix etc. Thanks merry.
I have highlights now but it always reverts to dark brown in 2 yearly cycles.

merryxmaswidow · 22/12/2010 11:49

for every colour range in sallys they will have a colour chart, so you can look at the colours before you purchase. i said koleston because i know the range. in that range the double numbers eg 44/0, 99/0 cover grey fully, single numbers eg 4/0 will be translucent so you will get a different effect.

you will also save money as you don't need to use the whole tube just measure out enough ( if in doubt use a quarter of a tube and mix up a little more if it runs out )

Only permanent hair dye that lasts is Nice n Easy - way better than the others. I have tried them all believe me! Dont go near these new "10 minute" ones, utter rubbish. Nice N easy every time : )

littledolly · 22/12/2010 21:38

I always used Nice n Easy 118, but have now switched to Perfect Ten (I think it's medium golden brown) and love it! Always get complemented on my hair colour and it lasts really well. I prefer the applicator with it to the Nice n Easy one, and the fact that it only takes 10 minutes!

Gillybobs · 23/12/2010 13:12

Do you have any greys littledolly? When I used Perfect Ten it didnt cover my greys at all! (I dont have a huge amount of them either!)

piratecat · 05/02/2011 13:20

just to update, i used this and it nearly burnt my scalp off. in fact it did, in places.lots of red patches i do have a fairy sensitive one, but the boots own permanent has never done this.

scalp is still scaly and big flakes.

the coverage on my grey is good, but too light iyswim, so this co;our isn't dark enough.

hmm...

Gillybobs · 05/02/2011 15:55

what did you use?

belgo · 05/02/2011 15:59

I use L'oreal hair dye, natural gloss I think it's called. It works very well, and stings a bit but not as much as the hairdresser's hair dye. I have very dark hair and the grey stands out, but the L'Oreal covers it very well. And I only need to leave it on about 25 minutes.

CountessVonKnackerstein · 05/02/2011 16:20

Which one were you allergic to piratecat?

lotty5 · 05/02/2011 22:39

I use the new foam form John Frieda, 6N, good coverage, hides all greys and has ot faded after 6 weeks or turned orage

lotty5 · 05/02/2011 22:40

sorry must be tired - not faded or turned orange

piratecat · 06/02/2011 17:13

sorry i used the NIce and Easy 118.

might try that foam one then.
