Where can I find really lovely lamps?

Not sure if this belongs here or in good housekeeping but basically after my umpteenth argument with DH on the subject of our house I need to actually order something to brighten the place up. I"m starting with lights because our living room is very dingy. Where can I find a nice selection of lamps (floorstanding and table top - we'll be needing both).

Thanks, ladies

Thanks both - bamboo, I'm not sure I'm ready for a tiffany lamp but I do really like the bases of the floorstanding ones so it's given me a better idea what I'm after, which is useful.

I'd always start off having a look at John Lewis - range of styles and prices.

here

M&S is worth a browse too - I like this bon bon balls lamp (partly for the name!!!) and v good value: here

I love John Lewis lighting department.

It's not a shop I would use for most things, but sometimes for lighting, BHS do some nice lamps. Maybe worth a look?

Graham and Green and Heals both have lovely lamps. Depends on what style you are after and budget. They are both on the expensive side.

Christopher Wray lighting. If you're anywhere near London, the shop in the King's Road is well worth a visit. I love it!
But tis expensive.

Actually, wish I'd checked the site out first before suggesting it - seems to have gone a bit dullsville there now Xmas Sad.

Depending on your style you might want to try ebay for antique and bespoke lamps.

I've got a few beautiful authentic art deco pieces, and they look rather splendid and definitely different from the predictable repertoire of high street shops. They are not hugely expensive either.

Watch out for the type of bulbs they take. I bought one from Dunelm Mill a couple of weeks ago and it takes poxy screw in bulbs and I haven't got any. They do some nice lamps though.
