Okay- remember I am older than a lot of you and was brought up with Laudee Youth Dew!

I currently use Chanel 19 which I love and have come back to over 25 years. I also like Clarins Eau Dyammis.

I like fresh and green, not sickly or flowery (eg Tresor) but I do like something that dries down to a softer warmer smell rather than being zingy lemony all the time.

I love Clinique Aromatics but it doesn't like me- too heavy and gives me a headache.

What should I try?

You might like Dolce and Gabbana light blue.

JamieLeeCurtis · 16/12/2010 18:29

I've got one from SpaceNK which is called Jasamber.

mavornia · 16/12/2010 18:51

In summer I love Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil, very fresh and green (also has a definite mango note but not overly fruity)

also like eau d'orange verte by hermes

La Lune by D&G is lovely, not overly floral

Finally Ambre d'Oro by Tova is lovely and warm

purplepeony · 16/12/2010 19:04

MN- I am much older than you then.

Diptyque Phylosykos is gorgeous.

panettoinydog · 16/12/2010 19:06

I like l'eau d'issey because it's fresh but not harsh. Give it a sniff.

animula · 16/12/2010 21:18

SpaceNK have some lovely perfumes, pre-selected from various place, pp.

"Iris Nobile" I suspect you will love - feminine in a very grown up way, and doesn't have the vaguest trace of celebrity-trashy.

I love the Antonia's Flowers ones - "Tempe Passante" and "Floret", though I suspect they might be a little bit sweet for you.

You should spend a little while in the perfume section in Liberty. Miller Harris "L'Air de Rien" is lovely. Isuspect you'd like Anick goutal's "L'Air d'Hadrien" and "Eau de Sud".
They also have a little section just outside for Frederick Malle. I think there are a couple in there you'd like. My favourite is "Carnal Flower".

missmartha · 16/12/2010 21:26

Diorella is a lovely fresh green perfume.

Dior is one of the fashion houses that do great perfumes, the new ones don't seem to be able to get it right for some reason.

Prada is an exception.

ABird · 16/12/2010 21:28

Am in agreement with Panattone - l'eau d'issey is lovely.

MrsTicklemouse · 16/12/2010 21:28

I use Vera Wang (just called Vera Wang not princess or bouquet) it's lovely and I think how you you describe!!

MimsyStarr · 16/12/2010 21:30

I'll go get my Luca Turin book, the review of perfumes..... I remember reading about a great green one there.

MimsyStarr · 16/12/2010 21:47

OK, this is the one I thought sounded like a great green : Calyx by Prescriptives. Gets 5 out of 5 stars in the guide. I won't type out the whole review, but what caught my eye was they said it is a 'friendly' green fragrance (many green fragrances can give a little, ahem, "narrow-eyed haughty effect" apparently! Good for when you want to appear imposing Smile )

Interestingly the guide says that No.19 has changed in the drydown lately, maybe you had noticed that.

anyway, other Citrusy suggestions - Chanel Cristalle and Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin.

Chypre suggestions(i.e. like Aromatic Elixir) - Diorella, Givenchy III

The link that mothernature posted mentions Badgley Mishka - I tried this recently in Harvey Nicols and it is bloody sensational! I would call it a fruity floral. It is on my birthday wishlist!

BikeRunSki · 16/12/2010 21:49

Clinique Happy or Happy Heart.

missmartha · 16/12/2010 21:50

Just had a look at my Luca too. Oddly he mentions Mitsouko in the chypre category.

I would have thought it was too heavy.

Hey, what do I know.

StarlightPrincess · 16/12/2010 21:55

Chanel's Cristalle Eau Verte is lovely, my mum is a sixties baby, and she adores this! It has notes of magnolia, white flowers, jasmine, bergamot and Sicilian lemon.

Horton · 16/12/2010 22:03

L'Artisan Parfumeur, Premier Figuier. Green, warm, not quite floral but still light and unusual (in a good way).

purplepeony · 16/12/2010 22:12

Thanks Funnily enough, someone who smelt No 19 on me waxed lyrical about L-eau d'issey- it always smeells a bit odd to me but will try again. will def pop into Liberty.

OP posts:
MimsyStarr · 16/12/2010 22:15

Also, try Dune by Dior. Another 5 star one. Fresh oriental, similar in mood to no.19.

polyhymnia · 16/12/2010 23:17

I think my tastes are similar to yours - and perhaps of similar vintage. Eau Dynamisante is my everyday splash and I'm pretty uncompromisingly citrus/ green. don't like Jo Malone grapefruit much, though - a bit unsubtle and sweet IMO.

My top recommendations would definitely be Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien and Eau du Sud - which animula has already mentioned.

Also like Miller Harris Tangerine Vert. And some of the Diptyque Eau ... ones in Space NK well worth trying (also like Philosykos, which is a very pure fig scent).

Oh, and like Dior L'Escale a Portofino, though think it's a bit of an Eau d'Hadrien copy. Tried a fantastic neroli-ish one by Frederic Malle in Paris once, but not sure of name without checking.

MooMinCow · 17/12/2010 07:53

I'm with StarisontheTree on the Prada one. Comes in a new EDT which is supposed to be fresher than the EDP. I love it, smells v. sophisticated and not headache inducing at all (v.important for me as I get a lot of migraines!).

I quite liked A Scent by Issey Miyake too. Comes in the original fresher green variety but I (unusually for me) went for the pink 'florale' edition which is fresh and floral at the same time

Also what about a vetiver based fragrance. Guerlain do a mens one that Elle McPherson wears all the time apparently?

zippy30 · 17/12/2010 12:13

A Scent by Issey Miyake is one of my favourites too - very fresh and 'green' and quite unusual.

I also like Dune By Dior, but I find it's better as an evening perfume, al little over-powering for daytime.
