About 0.1% of my hair is curly and the rest is straight - argh!

So most of my hair is shiny and straight. It is fine and thick (ie individual hairs are fine, but I have a lot of hair on my head!). But I have individual curly hairs - very curly, like afro type - about three hundred or so individual curly hairs are visible, there are probably more hidden in the heavier straight 'proper' hair! They're frizzing about all over the top of my head making me look decidedly un-groomed. I think it's the hair I lost after having DS, when it grew back, it grew back curly, but the rest is straight. My hair is shoulder-length at the moment but in need of a cut. So I need to decide -
a - what hair cut to get - it's all grown-out and mumsy at the mo. Is there a cut that would disguise this unholy mix of straight and curly?
b - what product to buy - is there something to tame the curly bits? I've tried a few straightening balms and they seem to have no real effect.

c - should I snip all the curly hairs off? No, that will make it worse, won't it? I'll get weird regrowth and a halo of shorter hairs like I did when it was growing back after post-natal hair loss.

I don't look good with curls (baaad photos of me with an 80s perm exist in my parent's photo album [shudders]) otherwise I'd consider just curling the lot. But then the straight heavy 'normal' bit of my hair doesn't actually hold curls very well.

Argh. Help. I hate seeing it in the mirror now, and DH keeps asking me why I've got my hair like this (in a bemused 'but why would you do that?' way...)
