struggle with dressing up these days. Want to wear something nice for the annual lunch coming up with all our friends. They are all skinny and spend more money on clothes than i do. They will wear skinny jeans, nice boots that they can wear over their jeans (I've given up trying to do this,I have fat naturally muscular calves) and some sexy slinky top or drapy expensively cut knitwear.

I am 5'4 and about 14/16. Leg length about 30 so would like to emphasise curves - I like to feel feminine. Would love to wear a skirt or dress but don't want to feel too dressy either.

Have plenty of jeans and have recently bought smart jeans but all boot legged or straight.

Bought some nice stuff from coast recently but wish I had another look apart from jeans boots and smart top.

How about a decent looking smarter coat with your bootlegs:

classic camel coat

trousers

with boots or heels.

Classic & timeless

this looks fab on curvier figures, and it's so versatile that even if it is over your budget you know it will get loads of wear

i have an isabella oliver wrap dress and i've worn it about 5 times since i got it a couple of months ago, it's really flattering

tiferbrains. I'm 5'4" with massive legs and gave up years ago finding boots that jeans tuck into but found some this year here. So long as the jeans are really dark and new it doesn't look too Farmer Gilesish.

SOMS - thanks also! one to try if I have time this week.

You should buy that red phase 8 dress and the black boots, wear with black opaques - lovely! Enjoy the lunch.

If you can get away with heels I'd buy a lovely pair of shoe boots to go with it, marks and spencers have some lovely ones, and they really do update any outfit, and you can wear then with thick black tights to keep warm!
