I have bought a pair of grey woollen shorts that sit just below my thighs and am wearing them with black woollen tights. They cover my thighs and are flattering but at 40 something are they inappropriate? Let me know what you think.

What kind of top and shoes/boots are you planning on wearing with them?

As they are flattering and cover the thigh they don't sound mutton.

Might be a bit different if we were talking about a pair of denim hotpants with your arse cheeks hanging out!

ha ha faff that really would be gross. I have a black v neck jumper with maroon vest poking out underneath so all quite understated.

I think it would look really nice and not mutton at all.I have been put off this look myself by my dd and her friend hooting with laughter over the idea that I might wear it!

After seeing that woman on CDWM last night, nothing anyone ever wears can be worse mutton than anything she wore!
