WHat's the best foundation primer?

I've been reading about the smashbox one, which sounds good, but does anyone have any recommendations? I have fairly sensitive skin, with some large pores/acne scars. My skin tends to be dry, mostly.

Laura Mericer one is good it comes in oil free or normal

polyhymnia · 09/12/2010 09:33

Another vote for Laura Mercier here.

willybreeder · 09/12/2010 09:44

Not tried LM but I love L'Oreal Studio Secrets, it's about £12 and the texture of marshmallows! You only need to use a small amount, great on open pores

orangina · 09/12/2010 10:25

i don't really "get" primer.... does it truly do anything at all? I have the LM one, and (occasionally) use it under my LM tinted moisturiser, but always feel as though I've been taken in by the Emporer's new clothes....

Guacamohohohole · 09/12/2010 10:28

Laura Mercier for me too!

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2010 10:29

I agree with willybreeder - that Loreal stuff is fantastic. Dooesn't pill either.

I tried a Lancome one as well and I was distinctly unimpressed.

StarlightPrincess · 09/12/2010 10:59

Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch- not found one that comes close to it!

bunnymother · 09/12/2010 11:01

I also really like the Loreal Studio primer and totally agree its like marshmallow! Lovely lovely stuff. I also rate the regular Loreal light diffusing concealer (poor man's Touche Eclat?).

I just got a philosophy one half price in TK Maxx 'The Present'. It's excellent.

ricketyrock · 09/12/2010 16:03

Yes if you are going to use a primer use the loreal. LM is nice but expensive and I'm not sure it's that effective whereas I think the loreal does make foundation last longer ( before oil slick sets in)

MayorNaze · 09/12/2010 16:04

avon magix one

is lush

brownbug78 · 09/12/2010 16:09

Really like the GOSH one from Superdrug - £10 and it's magic. It's also anti-wrinkle! I've also got large pores and some scarring, and the primer just sets my face up so well. Some days can manage with just that, some under eye concealer and mascara. Brilliant under foundation too. Where I LOVE it, though, is on my eye-lids - eye shadow goes on so smoothly and stays on - no more gathering in the creases!

HonestyBox · 09/12/2010 16:09

What does primer do exactly if I already use moisturiser and foundation? And when would I put it on?

Primer goes on after moisturiser, it helps fill in the cracks and gives your foundation a base to stick to. My favourite is Laura Mercier Mineral primer.

superv1xen · 09/12/2010 16:33

yeah magix is the best!

loreal one a close second.

TragicallyHip · 09/12/2010 16:48

oooh I'm on the hunt for a primer. After everyone's suggestions on here I can't decide which to buy!

brimfull · 09/12/2010 16:53

newtotheplanet agree, dior skinflash is fabulous stuff,I have the l'orela one and the avon one and dior is way better, not as drying.
Thought they had stopped making it though ,or am I wrong. I have the big silver tube thing of it and am really hoping they still do it.

superv1xen · 09/12/2010 18:04

i thought dior skinflash was a concealer / highlighter rather than a primer?

gregssausageroll · 09/12/2010 18:10

Nothing beats smashbox..

BEAUTlFUL · 09/12/2010 18:17

I like the Estee Lauder "Idealist" although it's expensive. (£20ish) I think I'll be trying the GOSH or the L'Oreal ones next.

I like Oil of Olay Wrinkle Filler too. Blush

brimfull · 09/12/2010 19:17

superv1xen diorskinflash also do a primer,in similar silver tube but 3times as fat
the big one

moragbellingham · 09/12/2010 19:50

L'Oreal studio secrets is great but I like YSL teinte perfection the best as it is not as industrial(?) and has a hint of colour.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 09/12/2010 19:55

Another vote for magix
