help me find a winter dress for dd please

dd has just turned 8 - is very tall and skinny and says she wants a 'winter' dress - by that I think she means something warm, pretty but not sleeveless, chiffony party type things

She's allergic to wool

I've been looking but have only found row upon row of party dresses, which is not going to keep her warm!

She's gone off pink, although will still wear if it's not too baby-ish, but favourite colour is now turquoise

any ideas? I've tried Gap, John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams to no avail so far ...

Petit Bateau is perfect for tall skinny girls ,the fit is really slim.If she has just turned 8 she may fit the 8y best (which is 6-8 in French sizing) or need the 10y if she is very tall. They have some lovely floral long sleeved winter dresses at the moment. Also you could try laredoute as again, the french fit will suit your dd and its a lot cheaper than Petit bateau.( I have a tall thin nearly six year old,and in underwear, and trousers in particular I only buy French stuff as everything else is massive.

this is lovely

thanks for suggestions :)

I'd not thought of French brands before - we might actually find some trousers which fit her!! - they're always ludicrously too big round the waist if they're long enough in the leg ...

why don't shops cater for skinny children as well as they cater for kids with a bit more padding?

I put dd in pinnies with long sleeved tops beneath and a cardy on top, but I realise that this is exactly how I dress in winter Blush.

For French clothes, I love www.dpam.com, good, that gives me an excuse to have another look at the site!

Yes the huge waist thing drives me barmy,my dd is usually in dresses for that reason, but the trousers she does have are Petit Bateau and they have an adjustable elastic inside which really helps. The other tip for skinnies is that landsend do a slim fit in some things, including swimwear which is handy. Most of the kids stuff is on the .com US website though, not a big selection on the UK one although they may be upping the range.
