where on earth can i buy merrell boots in person?

i've been very inspired by the whole suitable-for-the-winter-clothing threads on here in the last few days. consequently i've bought a merrell haven coat, online, which i am looking forward to receiving...

i would also like some winter boots and masses of trawling on the internet has revealed that basically these need to be merrell too.

but where can i try them on? i am not sure what size i am any more thanks to the foot-spread that ensued after dd2's birth, so can barely even hazard a guess as to what size i am, ridiculous as it may sound.

i am of course referring to the yarra/tempest/puffin style of winter boot, not hiking boots.

btw i have looked at the store locator for both my postcode and london, but places either have no website or are proper hiking places.

bit long, but please help me...

I'm interested in this too. The only place I've found by googling is Field and Trek in Covent Garden, but it doesn't say what styles.

Schuh have the non-hiking Merrells on their website, you can order into a store if you want to be certain of getting what you want. I think unfortunately you have to pay up front then get a refund for whatever you don't want/doesn't fit.

janek · 05/12/2010 16:28

thank you. as far as i can make out schuh only have the oslo, and that's not the one i want. i guess it would give me an idea of size though...

i've considered trying some hiking boots on in go outdoors and working out what size i am, then ordering on the internet (that's what i did with my coat...).

they also seem to stock some in cloggs, but not the ones i really wanted.

Oh ... you mentioned Puffin, and they have Puffin Chill and Puffin Freeze on the website, plus Spirit Frost which looks in the same vein?

FWIW I usually buy shoes online from Amazon, as they don't seem to have ridiculous signing-for-parcels policies like a lot of other shoe retailers, and their returns are straightforward. If your credit card can take the temporary hit, it might be worth getting multiple sizes from them.

I saw some in Blacks the other day. try the store finder

hth

moonstorm · 05/12/2010 17:58

ps they had a selection of the non-hiking ones Xmas Smile

higgle · 05/12/2010 18:20

Blacks had Oslo in stock in Cheltenham.

thanks dcmb, i hadn't seen those on there - i searched for 'merrell' and 'winter boots' and they didn't come up... but put in the actual name and abracadabra!

the ones i really want though are called tempest. last year's stock seem to be sold out and although they are avaiable on the US merrell website there is no mention of them over here. perhaps someone can help me find them... [hopeful emoticon]

Cotswold outdoor should have them, and they have several London branches - I'd ring the branch and check first though.

LIZS · 06/12/2010 17:23

Jones?

janek · 06/12/2010 17:36

thank you all. cotswold outdoor look good, i may return to them...

schuh have a really useful stock checker for your local shop on their website. which is brilliant, as long as it's accurate...

i shall go to birmingham tomorrow to investigate.

thank you all so much. Grin.

Let us know how you got on janek. I have the haven and apart from the self-unbuttoning toggles it is great, very warm and waterproof.

Jumbs · 07/12/2010 14:36

I've got the tempests, got them in person at Mastershoe in Bristol. I am usually a 6.5-7 but bought 6 and they fit fine. They are beautifully warm and as comfy as slippers. Hope you get the ones you want!

janek · 08/12/2010 20:15

that's very good to hear jumbs because i've just ordered some tempest from some dodgy internet outfit i've never heard of (fitness footwear, can anyone vouch for them?!?) and i ordered size 6 too, even though my formerly size 6 feet are now a larger size.

in birmingham i found some puffin chill in schuh, then some yarra and a couple of other styles in cloggs and the size 6s seemed snug, but comfy.

my haven has now arrived and it seems pretty good so far, although it is worryingly thin, but i went out in it earlier and i wasn't cold.

in other news i have bought some north face snow sneakers which are also very warm. i wore them home from the shop and it was only when my feet were warm that i noticed how cold my legs were...

they are really good though - not quite as comfy as trainers, but almost and so grippy and so warm it's worth it. and i may just need to wear them in.

so all i need now are my tempest boots to arrive and i've achieved the primaloft hattrick. well done me Grin.

schuh will order you in anything on their website to try on at the shop.

FiveOrangePips · 08/12/2010 20:48

We have regularly had temperatures below zero during the day, for weeks now janek (NE Scotland) and I have not been cold in my Haven.

Habbibu · 08/12/2010 20:55

I've been toasty in my Haven in the snow here in Fife, and can absolutely recommend these North Face boots - sledging on Cairngorm - bone dry and warm as toast.

janek · 20/12/2010 10:38

so, fitness footwear refunded my money because they'd moved warehouses (Hmm) and couldn't find the solitary pair they had in stock.

jamesandjames.com refunded my money because despite the fact that their website let me order them they did not have them in stock.

MERRELL.COM!!! refunded my money, despite the fact that they were under the new arrivals section on their website and sent me an e-mail saying they would never be in stock, i would never own such lovely warm boots.

BUT THEN hooray for WEBTOGS.CO.UK - they sent me an e-mail to say they had boots in stock, but hurry, there were only 3 pairs, i ordered them on tuesday, they arrived on saturday!!!

i am delighted, they are very brilliant, wore them in the snow with my haven and i was warm as toast. why did no one tell me about such products years ago? i have been freezing for years.

and i didn't fall over.

very pleased. and warm. Xmas Grin.
