Does anyone have the silk epil?

I have stopped going for waxing at the salon as £40 every 4 weeks just got too much. I have been thinking about buying something for a while and this has pretty good reviews and is on offer at the moment.

I've got one - it's very effective but also very loud!

I have one..

I find it very effective BUT time consuming.
Noisy too, but unlike many others, I don't find epilating at all painfulConfused

Having used it alot last year I have found alot of my leg hair hasn't grown back but I do get those weird under the skin black dots of regrowth.

I chickened out and bought the "soft perfection" (which has less roller area) as a bit of an experiment but wish I'd bought the full size one.

There seems to be a few on the Boots website. Are they all the same, just different colours?

I've got one, no complaints, but yes could be quieter!

I had one admiteddly years ago so they are probably better now but my nickname for it was the lawnmower think that pretty much sums it up.....

moonstorm · 04/12/2010 19:40

I have very fine hairs and I do find it misses a lot...

I love my epilator.

A quick weekly leg mow is so much easier than waxing and waiting for the regrowth, wish I'd discovered it years ago.

I have the Wet & Dry version, been using an Epilator on my legs and underarms for years and it is painful, but the skin does get use to it. Only problem I experience is very bad ingrown hairs and bumpiness, even though I exfoliate first.

I think at some point I will have Laser Hair Removal done on my legs. I had my chin and upper lip done and the results were amazing and still no regrowth.

rusmum · 05/12/2010 08:25

ow ow ow it hurts!!!! andi had awful ungrowing hairs too.

I have a silk epil and I love it! It's a couple of years old so I don't think it's the latest model. I don't find it at all painful on my legs but bikini line and armpits stung a bit- I stick to shaving those because it's quicker anyway.

Lush's Buffy bar is fantastic for preventing ingrown hairs.

Make sure which ever epilator you get has a 'headlight', it's much easier to tell if you missed a bit.

moragbellingham · 05/12/2010 09:05

Apart from the wet/dry(whyConfusedwould you epilate actually in the shower?] rechargeable differences I don't know the answer to the colours thing - there is obviuosly a difference that the Boots website is not showing. They both have 40 tweezers (mine had 24).
I'd check the Braun website to be sure.

I had one as a teenager when they first came out. Used to make me cry using it so all I could manage was a 'thinning out'. Angry angry spots on them aftwerwards too. And I'm pretty tough in general, getting a tattoo didn't make me cry.

Secrettoshare · 05/12/2010 19:57

I have been epilating for more than 20 years!

[proud emoticon].

It doesn't hurt so much if you do it when the hairs are shorter. This is recommended, and is the great benefit of an epilator over wwaxing - for waxing you have to wait for quite a significant amount of regrowth.

It also doesn't hurt so much if you do it immediately after a hot bath or long shower.

There are gels (often containing tea tree) that you smooth on immediately after which prevent the appearance of spots.

The worst thing about it, as others have said, is that it is really quite noisy.

I have one, agree it sounds like a chainsaw, and makes your eyes water, but the effects last for ages.

jamaisjedors · 06/12/2010 07:46

I have one and like it for all the reasons above - got really fed up waiting 3 weeks for regrowth in summer with waxing and also I always seemed to wax and then it would rain!

BUT after a year or so with the epilator I have had really bad ingrowing hairs, I have gone back to getting my legs waxed every now and then to help with that.
