Best shampoo for greasy hair?

My hair needs washing everyday. It's so greasy that if I wash it in the evening, it is greasy before the end of the next day. It's quite nice hair but a nuisance! Dark , fine, but plenty of it. Any suggestions?

The new Pantene Aqualight is good. Also the Herbal Essences for greasy hair.

I second Herbal Essences. Have you tried dry shampoo? I've found the brown coloured version of Batiste quite good. They do handbag sized versions you can carry with you.

Ecover washing up liquid Xmas Wink

If this idea appals you, I have found Neutrogena to be almost as good. It's probably not helping to wash your hair every day as it overstimulates the scalp. It's a bit of a viscious circle. If you possibly can, start leaving it two days between washes. It will be horribly oily to start with but might well settle down.

12 year old DD with greasy hair! recommends VO5 shampoo for greasy hair, she has tried Herbal Essences as well, but finds VO5 better. I've also found VO5 surprisingly good recently as well - the new hairspray with "weather protection" actually seems to work!

The Body Shop do a ginger one for oily hair. Works wonders on my ds1 (14), v light refreshing smell.

You could be describing my hair! Neutrogena T/Gel works everytime. I wash it in the morning 'though (not the night before) and it's still fine by the end of the day.

Greasy at the roots but dry at the ends and I also wash every day. If I don't my scalp itches - any shampoo recommendations for this problem? TIA

Thanks. I know I need to leave it really and do use dry shampoo sometimes, but it is so hard when you feel horrible! Actually have some t-gel in the cupboard so will give that a whirl. Have used and liked some other Herbal essences so will try that too. Thanks everyone Smile

my hair seems to go through random greasy phases this lush stuff works a treat

DrSpechemin · 04/12/2010 11:30

I've just bought that new pantene aqualight and find it brilliant - I have the same hair type as you - dark and fine but lots of it.
I find that I can go a day without a hair wash and it still feels really clean.

Before that I used l'oreal elvive light - in a pink bottle.

Oh and just condition the ends

CrazyPregnant · 04/12/2010 11:40

My hair seems to have changed recently, used to wash and condition every 2-3 days, hair was lovely. After having dc3 my hair became permanently lank and greasy, I used different shampoo & conditioner to no avail. I washed and didn't condition and was amazed- my hair was gorgeous and shiny again- no heaviness! I use a conditioning treatment about once a month and hair has never been so good, so maybe try ditching the conditioner!

Thanks all. I only ever condition the very tips so it's not that. I've bought the Herbal essences and if that's no good I'll try the Pantene. I'd just like to get one more day out of it and then hopefully it would stop overproducing so much oil!

Ive spent 20 years trying to solve this and Ive finally cracked it - HEAD AND SHOULDERS (any kind but I prefer the citrus fresh one) I dont have dandruff but my DH occasionally does and buys this. I used it in the shower and got a full 2 to 3 days before I had to wash my hair. This was a huge revelation. Ive since mentioned it to a few friends and they find it makes hair really clean too. Highly Recommend!

If you ever fancy spending a fortune, Kerastase Divalent works really well for me. I only have to wash my hair every other day when I use it.

Also, check if you condition contains silicones. I find they really weigh my hair down and make it more greasy much quicker.

lovelyopaque · 06/12/2010 15:06

Well, I washed with the herbal essences yesterday, and it was definitely better! Felt able to go without washing this morning, so hopefully we can get onto a cycle of every other day. Excellent. Thanks.
