Men's Clothing - Help!

Hello.
My husband would like me to buy him some clothes for Christmas. I am happy to do this but am having problems for the following reasons:

1. He is incredibly fussy
2. He is a challenging size
3. Did I mention the fussiness? So, the size thing is that he is XL - XXL, very broad of shoulder and very tall. The fussiness thing is largely based around the following: He likes nice material, he won't wear anything with slogans or writing or big label names on it, nothing sporty or anything that makes him look remotely like he's a member of a rugby club, no hoods or sweatshirts, some "interesting" detail if possible, nothing that's going to make him look like Paul McCartney in his later years (ie flowery shirts, loud patterned shirts). Where can I look? Price-range and style:well, historically he likes Diesel Jeans and Camper shoes, but I would like to get him something a bit different. Oh, and he's in his late-30's. Any ideas would be gratefully received... Thank you!

Sounds a bit like my DH, won't step into burtons 'cos it's just too trendy'. I've got him the occasional shirt from debenhams online, some of the mantaray label ones. Either that or he quite likes the jumpers from fatface (small slogan/label if at all). Don't know what sizes they do though.

Crew clothing. My DH won't do anything too trendy (I posted on here recently that he wouldn't try on jeans in Fat Face as they had 'too many pockets'!) but Crew do very nice shirts and pullovers. Also Gap - they do very nice cords and fine-knit jumpers.

I would take a look at Uniqlo (although not sure of their sizing). A bit like gap with some nice colours... and some of the +J stuff is just lovely.

You could buy him some lovely knitwear: John Smedley or Nigel Hall are good (I think their XL's are pretty true to size too). Ebay is a good source for both of these.

Was going to say Boden, until you mentioned the rugby club... Howies? but don't know how big they go.

Thanks for that - will look into some of those. Had forgotten about John Smedley - that would be a good idea. Let's hope I can find something before Christmas...

If you live anywhere near Oxford go to Walters on Turl Street. It is the perfect mans shop for men who dont like shopping. Lovely staff too.

Lots of understated no logo high quality knitwear, cotton shirts, cords/chinos, casual jackets as well as suits and coats and formal stuff.

Decent prices for the quality too.
