Help needed, Xmas party and I need something to wear

Was going to wear trusty black dress but bought some black skinny trousers today which I love and want to wear instead, but need a top.

What do you think of this top and what shoes and accessories would go with it?

Am 5 foot 5, and size 10. Thanks!

very sedate

BitOfFun · 28/11/2010 22:52

What sort of do is it? Are you trying to avoid an office groper?

dolcegusto · 28/11/2010 22:53

Really? Don't want to be sedate. Would prefer the sexy hottie look. Smile

It's dinner and lots of drinking. No groper (as far as I know!) but am only woman in office of 8 men.

Any suggestions what I should be going for?

you need a red dress

BitOfFun · 28/11/2010 22:58

Your top looks fine. I wouldn't really want to go full-on vamp at that kind of event.

Tortington · 28/11/2010 23:05

here

BitOfFun · 28/11/2010 23:08

Ooh, now that I do like.

dolcegusto · 28/11/2010 23:08

Hmm, like it but have smallish norks so would need padded bra which wouldn't work with the back.

Oasis have some lovely dresses atm - I like www.oasis-stores.com/Tokyo-Lace-Shift-Dress/Dresses/oasis/fcp-product/3470059314this one.

mumonthenet · 28/11/2010 23:14

how about this ? sexy but not actually showing too much skin. Put hair up or back and wear big sparkly earrings?

Love custy's dress too.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/11/2010 23:16

Try again.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/11/2010 23:17

What's your shape and colouring? What styles do you normally wear/feel comfortable in?

dolcegusto · 28/11/2010 23:22

I don't go out much now and live in jeans and long tops. Don't mind something a bit fitted as have lost 2 stone of baby weight so something that shows that I finally gave a waist would be good.

Have longish blonde hair and pale skin.

Still have a wobbly belly so nothing to tight around the stomach area unless I can wear giant pants with it too!

Sounds like skinny jeans and a top won't necessarily show off your best bits then (if that's what you want to do).

Would a knitted dress be an option - nothing too baggy or long, but clinging in all the right places and upholstered by spanx?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/11/2010 23:30

I tried on this today (yes, I spent some time n Oasis), and it's sweet - just above the knee, colour camouflaged bumps, but maybe you want something a bit more dressy?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/11/2010 23:30

Going to bed now Smile.

dolcegusto · 28/11/2010 23:32

Actually knitted dress sounds good,

Where do I find one?! Sorry am rubbish at shopping for myself, I always end up with the same old thing. In fact my whole wardrobe could do with a makeover.

I haven't bought any going out clothes since I lost the baby weight, and the pre preg stuff I have is either really dated or doesn't suit me any more.

Well, that purple one is knitted, but they have lots more.
They're all over the place at the moment. Actually, the assistant in Oasis was wearing a lovely black knitted sequinned one which looked fab. It's probably on the website, or it might be worth popping in to town for a look. I think Warehouse have a few atm as well.

dolcegusto · 28/11/2010 23:39

Have just found this I really like it but am wondering if it's a bit too 'safe', feel like being more daring and not just 'boring mum on a rare night out'

I like that purple dress. Might head to oasis and warehouse in the week and have a proper look.

Thanks for fab advice.
