i have 2 marquisite (sp!) hairclips that were my gran's.
i'm never going to use them as they are but wondered about changing them into a brooch or pin.
though i have no idea where to start with that. do you? any idea / tips gratefully received Smile

Are they cast on silver, tin or copper?

Ways that this can be done depend heavily on this.

Easiest way would be to saw the back of the hairclip off and then glue it to a brooch fastening.

If it's silver, depending on the stone setting you may be able to get a brooch fastening soldered to the back which looks nicer and is longer lasting but if there are any stones at the other sides of the solder site then they could fall out or discolour.

Luckily marcasite is cheap enough to replace if you have any problems

thanks so much for your reply BB

not sure what metal they're cast on, will go
off and dig them out.

however, i am utterly useless at this kind of thing and was wondering who i could pay to do it - seems like too small a job for a local jeweller. Confused

No job is ever too small. They'll be glad of the business.
But try an independent- the chain stores will charge you waaaay over the odds for the work required :)
