Hollister is crap

I know there have been a few threads about Hollister previously, but my dd (13) has just got into it.

She went shopping in Bristol today, and got a jacket from there for £40. It is really nothing special, and looks no different from one you would buy in Primark for £5.

The Hollister t-shirts that we have in the house are really poor quality - v thin material and they have gone really bobbly. (technical term).

I just don't get it. It really pains me to see dd use her money in this way, but I don't think it's fair to tell her she can't - after all it's her money.

And now she's in a strop because I told her she was ripped off...

Smells amazing mind you!

brassick · 21/11/2010 16:47

I have never been in there myself, and from what I've read and heard about it, have no desire to go in there...

Was in Milton Keynes yesterday and saw loads of teen girls with Hollister bags. This is a shop that has passed me by. What is it???

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/11/2010 17:38

It is a shop that sells kind of California surf style stuff. I finally realised I was ancient when I went inside - very dark and I kept crashing my pram into the legs of uber trendy Newcastle students!

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2010 17:42

Can someone tell me why Hollister (also All Saints, Ted Baker and Abercrombie) have their shops so dark? You can't even see in, why has out me off ever venturing in. Am 40 something, chuncky size 14 mum though, so I doubt that I am their get market.

Wilts · 21/11/2010 17:43

Ds1 likes Hollister although we are too poor to shop there. Think they could do with handing out torches on the way in though Wink

mrsgordonfreeman · 21/11/2010 17:45

Every second Tom, Dick and Jayden round here sports a Hollister top.

They are the petty criminal brand of choice in Mill Hill.

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2010 17:47

... although I was an uber trendy geeky Newcastle Uni student once.

OhCobblers · 21/11/2010 21:10

BRS i know what you mean - on the 2 occasions i've popped in there i've wanted to shout out "would someone switch the bloody lights on"!

To be honest if they can still sell things despite having dark, smelly shops, good luck to them.

But to pay £15 for a t-shirt that now looks like one you paid £2 for in Primark is just a joke...(except I'm not laughing)

The requirement for night-vision goggles and the sheer smell of the place puts me off.

HotchpotchHoney · 23/11/2010 12:02

Never been into an actual shop but ds1 has some hollister bits, although apparently its the cheaper version of abercrombie and so abercrombie is preferred!
Its just another brand that teenagers of a certain sort want, the ones that buy hollister usually buiy abercrombie, jack wills and superdry as well. Ds1's friends all look like versions of each other in their hooded jackets or jumpers skinny jeans and bmx bikes but of course they are sooo origional and the first to ever wear such attire. (hes 13 by the way)

GetOrfMoiLand · 23/11/2010 12:10

I really showed up DD in the Cabot Circus Hollister - I grumbled about not being able to see the prices (the place I think is lit by 3 dim spotlights), then got stuck in a dead end and clambered throygh a pot plant in frustration.

It is her favourite shop - tbh i think the wuality is very good, DP and DD have got some hollister t shirts and jumpers and they really wash well.

Pretty cheap as well, compared to Abercrombie, Jack Wills and Superdry.

GetOrfMoiLand · 23/11/2010 12:11

x posts with hotchpotch re abercrombie, Jack wills and Superdry ubiquity.

bigTillyMint · 23/11/2010 12:54

Those shops are dark so you can't see the crap quality and high price tags. They have teenagers queueing all the time outside the Bluewater Hollister. It's just an advertising ploy - if you see a queue you think the stuff inside must be so fabulous people will queue for it.

Gullible shoppers Grin

HotchpotchHoney · 23/11/2010 13:40

queueing to get in, really?
whats wrong with your dads old ripped levis and dm's with grolsch bottle tops on i ask you? Wink

dexter73 · 23/11/2010 14:12

I think the quality is good. My dd has a few tops from there that have been washed and worn millions of times and they still look good. She wears her trackie bottoms at school and they have survived all sorts!
I just dont go in the shop - dd has her own money and I go elsewhere.
