Clothes swapping thread - would this be a dreadful idea?!

I was sorting out some clothes I've never worn and wondered about having a clothes swapping party - but I don't know enough people!
What do you think about trying it on here? I have some really lovely things I know I'll never wear and ebay is rubbish for selling clothes and shoes, because it's so overrun - so swapping sounds like a good idea.

We could put photos on flickr or something?

What does everyone reckon? Smile

I think it sounds like a good idea :)

EnnisDelMar · 20/11/2010 11:20

Anyone else? Smile

I could do with having some nice stuff I actually would wear, instead of these things taking up space!

I think that would work really well. I have a lot of pre-pregnancy clothes that I would love to swap for maternity stuff as it's not certain that I'll fit into them once I'm done being pregnant/BFing anyway. There are probably a lot of other people in the same position....

I would join in if I were in the UK!

EnnisDelMar · 20/11/2010 11:37

Aww! what a shame you're overseas. But thanks for the thumbs up Smile

Yes - I'd do it!

Naetha · 20/11/2010 15:29

I had a clothes swapping party and it was brilliant. I had about 8 friends around of varying sizes (from about 12 to 22) and got some great clothes out of it, as did all my friends. It's amazing how little value you put on something you never wear, and yet your best friend could fall in love with it and wear it day in day out.

Everybody felt like they took home so much more than they brought, and we still had binbags left over for the charity shop.

As with any party - a bit of good music, a bit of an atmosphere, few drinks and nibbles and you're sorted. We didn't have a seperate changing area, although people could change in one of the upstairs bedrooms if they wanted. I recommended people wear leggings and a vest so they could try clothes on top of these (i.e everyone wasn't wandering around nekkid). People also brought bags, jewellery, shoes etc.

Was great fun, and will probably do it every year.

EnnisDelMar · 20/11/2010 16:07

That sounds brilliant, Naetha - but I don't have 8 friends!

My friends are in the computer, as I tell ds Grin

We could have virtual nibbles and everything. I'd even break out the Asti Grin.

EnnisDelMar · 20/11/2010 17:57

Now you're talking Smile

Bear anyone?

Oooh, it could just like "Abigails Party". That 1970's vibe is sooo now.

CountessVonKnackerstein · 20/11/2010 18:23

Yes, I have some dresses I've never worn (bit short, tight and fitted) that a super slim gym bunny might wear?

EnnisDelMar · 20/11/2010 18:39

I have a Fever-London coat, which I wore once but will never have ocasion to wear again...also a Boden party frock and a Nica bag.

and some Camper shoes and loads of other stuff. I used to swap with my sister but she has grown exponentially Grin so we no longer fit the same stuff, sadly.

i am in

Esmee · 20/11/2010 19:57

I'd be in, I've been thinking the same thing recently. I have so many things I don't wear and Ebay can feel like a hassle for lower value items when you factor in the time taken to take photos, work out the P&P, list it, pack it, get proof of postage etc. Actually EnnisDelMar, a Flickr pool might not be a bad idea, to post pics all in one place.

appleslice · 20/11/2010 20:40

I am in as got clothes shoes bags etc

Honeydragon · 20/11/2010 21:40

Me too, I keep looking at bits I should really sell but can't be arsed don't have time to list individually on ebay.

rusmum · 21/11/2010 08:15

should we all do a picture trail- list here and go from there?

FrostyBaubles · 21/11/2010 08:33

I would be in,got a gorgeous maxi dress in deep purple,a LV bag that is just too big & loads of tops & things.

EnnisDelMar · 21/11/2010 08:39

Ooh good, more people!! Smile

I have a leeetle problem in that my card reader just stopped uploading, but can do pictures on my parents' computer if I drive to theirs.

It'll just take a bit longer.

Once there are a good few of us we can start sharing pics...makes sense to have at least 15 people first I reckon. As many as possible really.

how do we do a flickr pool? and should we put approx values of the clothes - say they are brand new - so people know roughly what would be a good swap? Or shall we address that as it arises?

Out this morning but back after lunch. Thanks for all the responses Smile

MrsMeow · 23/11/2010 20:31

Oooooh I'd love to join in - will have to look in my wardrobe, I have so much unworn stuff!

Ennis, can I ask what size shoe you are please? I love Camper shoes!

harecare · 23/11/2010 20:36

Have you tried swish websites? You can pay a small amount e.g. £5 to attend an organised clothes swap locally so you can go with the couple of friends you do have, but swap with more people who may be more your size.

kuckingfunt · 23/11/2010 20:42

I'll be in, I've got loads of stuff I can swap, shoes, clothes.

Frosty - first shout on the LV bag! Sounds lovely!
