Work Christmas meal ...

Hi All

I wonder if I can pick your brains (off to bed in a mo though so will look at any replies tomorrow if that's OK?)

It's our work's Christmas 'do' in a few weeks. It's at an expensive "country inn and restaurant" and is a small affair (only about 15 of us). I live in jeans (really!) both at work and outside. I am toying with getting some knee high boots though to attempt to get some dresses and skirts (is this look going out now I have just found it?)

So, the girls are all getting excited and buying evening type dresses. I really can't afford don't want to buy something I will never wear again. I need something smart but that, ideally, I could wear during the day.

I am 5'4 and a size 14/16. Unfortunately I appear to have lost my waist since I had my ds and have large boobs.

Help ...!

Thanks in advance :)

if you want to recreate your waist, why not try a simple black wrap dress? You could team that with either smart knee high boots or high heel shoes (the latter being my preference) and some stunning jewellery to jazz it up. Try Top Shop and H&M for some fab jewellery pieces for evening.

Thanks Tulpe. The only thing is the boots I am thinking of are not very smart I guess. These

I am guessing at the very least I would need the black ones ...?

See, I really need help :)!

Hmm, those are lovely boots but I wouldn't wear them for evening.

I know cheap footwear isn't to everyone's taste but I bought a pair of patent heels from Miss Selfridge for £25 about 3 years ago and have worn them loads for evenings out. I think when you are wearing something an average of once or twice a month then you don't necessarily have to invest in a major way. Believe me, I am a real shoe snob and for everyday wear would never consider either cheap or non-leather shoes.

Have you had a peek at say New Look or similar for a pair of cheaper evening shoes?

wanttomove · 20/11/2010 09:02

Thanks Tulpe!

I didn't really think about cheap shoes. As you say, I wouldn't buy them for every day (don't know why though, probably because I assume they will be uncomfortable!) but for a night out (sitting down!) that wouldn't matter!

Off to try and find a wrap dress online ... :)

you're very welcome :) Happy Shopping!

New Look do fab shoes at very reasonable prices, buy statement shoes and ear rings to jazz up a plain dress. Smile

wanttomove · 20/11/2010 13:06

OK, struggling with a dress and just remembered I have a pair of plain, very high, black heels I bought a few years ago for just this reason!

I like some of the dresses in Kew - especially this one but they don't have it in my size :( Would it look awful anyway? Am I on the right lines?

Thanks

Love the Windsmoor one.

But my reservation with empire line for ladies with no waist is that actually they can make you look bigger.

Will have a mooch on google and come back to you :)

How do you feel about your arms?

this Mango dress is gorgeous (I know, not great on the site). I tried it on earlier this week but tbh I don't have enough curves for it. It would give you definition to your waist because of the detailing and the style of the top means you could wear a decent bra beneath too :)

IMO this could also double as a day dress since the beading detail is also black. You could dress it down with either a black long sleeve tee beneath or a little cardi on the top.

I saw a lovely black wrap dress in Wallis yesterday. Below elbow sleeves, good neckline. Could dress it up with earrings and necklace.

wanttomove · 20/11/2010 18:00

Thanks all. I like all the dresses suggested but love the Mango dress. Thanks (again) tulpe!

OK. Off shopping tomorrow and let's see what I get!
