Winter shorts - what footwear pls ?

I will wear woolly tights but what footwear. Will long boots look tarty how about patent boots ?

I am a young 40 with good legs so dh say.

Help pls

I quite like the look of this sort of thing aviator boot with shorts.
I probably wouldn't go with patent as it is possibly bit too dressy, for those particular shorts IMO :)
