I am going with girl friends to the theatre this evening.

Give me a clue what to wear.

What are you going to see? From what I've seen the last few times I've been, no-one really bothers getting dressed up to go the theatre anymore. I would recommend casual but smartish. Unless it's something like a ballet or an opera cos then you'd need to be a bit more formal.

I haven't been for a while but I just used to wear whatever went with what I did before or was going to do afterwards. IMO there is no rule.

That applies to a normal theatre. Like Tidey says ballet/opera is different story.

Which type of theatre?

Can't go wromg with black trouers and a tunic style top IMO.

I have back trousers but with I had a chinese or indian style top and appropriate shoes.

Small posh theatre and prob small posh wine bar.

Actually I have answered my own question: Dress for the wine bar.
