Make up brush cleaning

I've just realised that I've never cleaned my make up brushes since I bought them . And no, I won't say how old they are either! .

What would you clean them with?? Or would you chuck and start again?

You can get specialist brush cleanser from Mac and various other places, (I think Bodyshop used to do one) I just use a very mild shampoo, rinse thoruoghly and lay on a towel on the radiator overnight. I have had some of my brushes for over ten years and this has kept them pretty much as good as new.

Johnsons Baby Shampoo is what my makeup artist friend uses, and then she dries them as darkside does.

I use baby shampoo. Rinse well. Blot dry with a towel and leave to dry.

I wash my foundation brush after every use, but I only wear it every so often. Maybe 3 or 4 times a month.

Ah great, I used my Clinique liquid face soap to clean them in the end. Will take them out of the pot I stood them in to dry them and stick them on the radiator instead .

I do need a new powder brush I have decided, the old one was quite scratchy and looked terrible once I'd washed in gently.

Nom I'm like you and only wear make up a few times a month but I really would like to wear a tiny amount each day to stop me looking like death....... It's just having the time in the morning

Baby shampoo is good for brushes that are used with powder makeup. For brushes that are used with cream or liquid makeup, use dishwash liquid or liquid soap - the oils in the makeup are harder to remover.

Only wash the bristle part, try to keep the bit where the bristle joins the handle dry, in case you damage the glue that holds it all together.

Wash them in warm water and Woolite. Rinse very well and leave to dry on some paper towels in the airing cupboard.
