Back to the drawing board - the Haven is going back

After much dithering I finally bit the bullet on the merrell haven. I had seen it in person and tried one on in an M which was too small for my post natal body & bfing norms so ordered a large.

Came yesterday & I look like the Michelin man, not flattering at all! So it's going back & back to the drawing board to find a nice waterproof coat.

Did you try an aberdeen Merrell coat? I really like the look of it, but DH thinks it looks like it's for old people!

I sent mine back too as I felt very drab.
Have a Land's End chevron in sapphire which I'm dithering over as it's not waterproof.
It is getting very cold and windy though and tights are surprisingly not windproof either!

According to some reviews it had dodgy toggles anywaySmile

Well, I'm so desperate after spending the week freezing cold and/or wet that I'm thinking about this - would never normally consider it but saw the catalogue at my ma's ... not sure about the lining though (and would have to keep very quiet about where I got it from!)

Why is it so hard to find a decent longish waterproof warm coat preferrably with a hood? You'd think fashion designers/retailers would realise how in demand such an item would be ...

I quite like the look of \link{http://store.berghaus.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product8_11201_10252_4-34290_-1___\this} in black. Just waiting to see what the MN Test feedback is like on it.

The North Face do something similar.

vjg13 · 12/11/2010 16:04

looks good, although hood looks a bit big without the fur.

kdk · 12/11/2010 16:26

Am jealous but those coats are all well too pricey for me. Could probably do up to £150 if I really had to ...

Shammalamma · 12/11/2010 16:46

you have a lands end coat see Morag

moragbellingham · 12/11/2010 18:11
Confused
FiveOrangePips · 12/11/2010 18:44

Combo I like the North Face arctic parka. Pity it is so pricey.

FiveOrangePips · 12/11/2010 18:45

Sorry I meant Fimbo(iPhone).

littlemissindecisive · 12/11/2010 20:45

this is great
store.berghaus.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product8_11201_10252_4-34290_-1_Womens%5EClothing%5EWaterproofs_Womens_

although a bit over your budget but is warm and windproof too

Have just posted about it on the 'coats' thread

FiveOrangePips · 13/11/2010 15:10

I do have the Haven and although it isn't the most stylish coat it does do a brilliant job of keeping me warm and dry in the worst weather - I sacrificed style for that. The toggles do have a habit of coming undone sometimes, because it has a zip that doesn't bother me too much.

I usually wear a bright scarf with it too, but in spite of the above issues it is the best winter coat I have ever had.

Bumperlicious · 13/11/2010 15:23

Thanks for the replies. love the timberland and northface ones but way too pricey for me.

i definitely need something that goes in at the waist. tis my only redeeming feature (or was before being pg!)

Bumperlicious · 13/11/2010 15:24

Really five? maybe i need to give it another chance. the zip is a bit dodgy though...

I think it isn't the right coat for you bumper, but winter coats never seem to flatter and be practical. It might be easier to find a woollen coat that flatters your shape, and will keep you warm too. It is difficult though, to find the right coat, I spent hours online looking for one before I went for the Haven, I couldn't afford anything more expensive.

SickOnMyShoulder · 13/11/2010 19:33

lovely but no hood

Bumperlicious · 13/11/2010 21:40

I could cope with slightly unflattering but not for £125. Will keep looking. Really need a hood with a pram.
