Am I asking the impossible? A stylish warm coat....that goes over a sling?

I am looking for something that may well not be out there...but if anyone can find it, then it's the stylish S&B MNetters!

Requirements:

  • Warm, pref bottom-covering coat
  • Ideally waterproof
  • Reasonably stylish (I like parka/military styling, but am open to other suggestions)
  • and the killer....can fit over a wrap sling, and allow me to hold hands with two toddlers as well (cape prob prohibits this?)

Budget is up to about £150

Do your best ladies! Smile

I've just had my merrell haven delivered. i'll try it on with dd2 in the sling later and let you know if it fits.

It's the "stylish" that's tricky. I use a down jacket over a sling, but I have to admit that it's probably not the height of fashion.

There is the Mamajacket, which I now wish I'd forked out for with DS.

Yes, on the stylish front. BUT i have a genius solution for you.

WEar a tight fitting fleece under the sling and wear this on top

Now usefully that's sold out, but you will be stylish in something similar and the baby will be warm. And you can wear the ponchoa gain.,

I did this on the weekend when it was very chilly and was toasty, and so was DS.

I'm not sure about the Mamajacket, it's a little utilitarian for me, but I can see that it would definitely keep LO warm and dry.

The poncho is really nice, but sadly not waterproof and I really need something that is at least water-resistant.

Thanks though. Any more suggestions...? Grin

No go on the haven I'm afraid. In fact it makes me look like the mitchelin man so not sure if I'm even keeping it.

Can you get some kind of waterproof cover for the sling?

FortunateHamster · 11/11/2010 20:20

There are babywearing-specific coats but am guessing you know about them. Like the Kindercoat, which is a 3-in-1, or the MaM coat/MaM two-way jacket (basically a fleece)/MaM tunic (which you can get as a waterproof).

Stylish is a different question altogether. I would like one as well but even the non-stylish ones are expensive. I'm thinking of getting a waterproof cover for the carrier but that means either wrapping under your coat, or over, and the bit on your back getting wet.

Bumperlicious · 11/11/2010 20:27

how about this cover?

hettie · 11/11/2010 20:32

well I saw a great parka in topshop the other day that looked very roomy in front.... BUT how about something kike this
[http://www.kiddopotamus.com/p_pop.php]
it's water resistant (you'd need a baby hat that ties on pref in fleece as this repels water [http://www.cambridgebaby.co.uk/catalog/hats-gloves/hats] and then you can by a lovely coat that you can wear underneath...

dairymoo · 11/11/2010 20:39

That cover looks good Bumperlicious - that way I could get away with pretty much any coat. Shame about the Raven...

Hettie - I use a wrap sling so sadly I don't think the kiddopotamus would work, but thanks anyway.
