I am mainly a dress person, but I thought I might give one a whirl. I was eyeing up one in Dotty P's today but I have absolutely NO IDEA what to wear on top. I know I wore them last time around (circa 1985 IIRC), but what with?

who knows! I started a similar thread a week or so ago and no one could answer me. Mine is hanging in the wardrobe unworn - don't bother is my opinion!

CMOTdibbler · 10/11/2010 15:41

I bought one from ASOS, and have been wearing it with a long sleeved tee and short sleeved cardi thing. I like it.

vintage4 · 10/11/2010 15:57

wore them in the 70`s with patterned blouses with White collars and puffed sleeves and tanktop over if thats any helpSmile

SuePurblybilt · 10/11/2010 15:59

Am I finally fashionable? I wear these with boots, layered top and cardi or sweater and belt all the time. Have done probably since the 90s Grin
Any links to some lovely new ones?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/11/2010 10:00

Bargain black one if you are size 8-10.
New Look but it looks a bit funny at the top.
Striped from Matalan if you are feeling brave.
Debenhams, but not at all sure about the patent brogues they suggest with it.
Animal print from Dotty P, but maybe a bit much for a size 14 46-year-old. (Have been reading the mumsy thread though, and resolved to get my shit together.)

methinks me likey the look of these...but am shortarse at 5'4 and look like a walking mini-marquee in a maxidress :( i tried on a lovely jersey tube style dress the other week and got told i looked like a very small caterpillar :(

should i give one a whirl do we think?

Hassled · 11/11/2010 10:06

They don't look very forgiving. Do they not just cling in unattractive ways?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/11/2010 10:08

I will if you will. Grin
Who told you that you looked like a caterpillar. That is crucial. If a close relative, ignore. If a man or a teenage offspring, double ignore. If a retail staff member, perhaps take notice.

well to be fair it was a multi-coloured striped dress. and it was my oh-so-stylish and cool sister with me. i bought the matching leggings instead - she expressed a desire that i wear them when she was very far away Grin

I seem to remember wearing such things in the 90s, but that was two stone ago. I fear if they're straight they'll enhance the saddlebags, and if a-line will just make me look like a comedy period wench.

I am wearing a blck mai skirt today, with a breton top and black wedge boots...and I think I look pretty good (have had 3 compliments.)

My maxi skirt is here - not too expensive.

notyummy · 11/11/2010 11:20

FFS - Black maxi skirt.

Am fairly tall, btw so that may help. Pear shaped though...but I think the cut on this one works...and a spanx slip underneath also helps Grin

BelligerentGhoul · 11/11/2010 17:57

I have a draped charcoal one and wear it mostly with a pale grey fitted jumper and brown boots with a small, chunky heel. I am STILL looking for some nice grey boots.

TruthSweet · 11/11/2010 18:21

Most aren't very 'maxi' on me though I need a 45" skirt to reach my ankles (though not very tall at 5'8" Confused). I have a gorgeous black maxi skirt in a heavy jersey from the now defunct 'The Liz Label'. Tis v v versatile and has seen me through about 8 years now Grin
