Highlights bady done?!

I've just had light blonde highlights through my mousey brown hair at an expensive salon. I have about 1cm of dark roots showing and think it looks quite fake, the hairdresser says it takes a while for highlights to blend in as my hair was dark and new colour blonde, is this right? Blush

Pffffft. I think you need a new hairdresser.

The whole point in a highlight is that they don't blend in-they add texture to your hairdo... you shouldn't have any roots though

Agree - they should put the highlights as close to your scalp as possible (but not actually on the scalp), especially around your parting - maybe a couple of millimetres or so.

Sometimes it can look a bit unexpected though, just because it's different to what you're used to and can change what your colouring looks like etc (iyswim).

I'm not a hairdresser, hopefully one will be along in a bit. But in my experience of 10 years of having highlights, the times when it looks fake is when the colour is not right for my skin tone - for me that means too orange/brassy, rather than ashy. If this was your first time having highlights, they should have spent a good amount of time going through the colour options with you beforehand imo. There are lots of variations on 'blonde'.

Perhaps you could speak to the salon on the phone tomorrow - they should not want to lose your custom/ their reputation if you aren't satisfied.

Highlights on mousy brown hair should not look fake - probably the colour that takes highlights the best! 1cm is a big gap unless it was a cap
