cheaper alternative to White Stuff?

I have finally lost the baby weight from DS2 after 8months and have been looking forward to updating mywardrobe which currently has only 3 tops wihtout holes in or stains on (due to a very sicky baby!!) I thought I'd be bakc at work by now, but due to my poorly boys, I'm home till after Christmas and can't afford to go shopping but desperately need some new clothes that aren't falling apart. I know if I had plenty of money, I'd like to shop in White Stuff. Can anyone suggest anywhere that sells similar looking clothes, but without the similar price tag? I admit to knowing nothing about shopping/fashion and have only been to town once in 15 months!!

Try looking for White Stuff things on Ebay. There is a website called Joe Browns but I have never had anything from there so cant vouch for it.

Oh and Uniqlo is fab for basic t-shirts etc. They are only based in London though, or there is a new one at Bluewater so you would need to shop on-line.

Try the Mantaray range at Debenhams although you have to be selective.

La Redoute has good prices.

here

iwilldothis · 02/11/2010 15:51

I second La Redoute, never (yet) bought anything there but they seem to have good value nice stuff. Enjoy shopping and well done for losing your baby weight so quickly :) (I'm still struggling with mine after nearly 2 years!!)

plupervert · 02/11/2010 16:04

Ah. Sorry to be negative, but I have tried La Redoute, and the cuts were not terribly flattering, and the fabrics not very nice, for the two items I bought for myself.

DS's roll-neck tops were very nice, though.

I agree with NorthernSky about La Redoute - poor quality. Also they are very slow to send things out, they will try and tempt you with free offers and the quality of the free item is usually quite poor.

EdgarAirbombPoe · 02/11/2010 21:26

different, and good sale stuff not necessarily cheaper though

I love White Stuff too but have bought a good few things of theirs on ebay - either second hand (although it still goes for quite a lot) or from a seller in Portugal who I think must have access to the Factory shop.
My other great place post baby was TK Maxx, you need to take the time to browse but can get some real finds there sometimes

SixtyFootDoll · 02/11/2010 21:44

La redoute are low quality and slow slow slow , would no rcommend!

lucykate · 02/11/2010 21:44

joe browns is a bit more fat face than white stuff.

esprit?

or try h&m, they have a pretty good range atm.

BranchingOut · 02/11/2010 21:50

What is the quality like on Mistral stuff?

EdgarAirbombPoe · 03/11/2010 12:17

to be honest, i don't know. It looks nice though. More real colour than White Stuff.

BOOamireally · 03/11/2010 12:27

I have always thought Fat Face and White Stuff were 'sister' companies? Are they owned by the same people?

wrigglytummy · 03/11/2010 13:15

I second 'mantaray' at Debenhams - some weird stuff, but I got a lovely white stuff-esque tunic there - decent pricing, nice quality & fit - worth a try if you are near a Debs store.

soccerwidow · 03/11/2010 13:48

I just tried a few things on in WS at the weekend and it seems this seasons stock is coming up much smaller. I have some size 14 tops that fit lovely, this time I couldn't get into some of the size 16's and they only do 18's in a handful of styles! grrr (and I know I haven't gained any weight)

So watching this thread with interest!

FanjolinaJolie · 03/11/2010 19:25

I second Mantaray at Debenhams, it's like Fatface and WhiteStuff but cheaper.

SleepWhenImDead · 03/11/2010 19:33

I've bought quite a few White Stuff things on ebay, there's two main sellers of new White Stuff who I have bought lovely things from: theoldloft and lovleynlushstuff - I would recommend either of these sellers.

googietheegg · 03/11/2010 21:10

Just had a look at the Mantaray stuff as I'd never heard of it, and there are some nice jersey dresses. Would look great with opaques and boots, but the Debenhams' 'may we suggest' box on the page suggested pale pink court shoes, dark pink boxy radley bag and a little girly necklace to go with it! No you may not suggest!
