Can someone run through what colour cardigans to wear?

I'm a recent convert to the idea that wearing a cardigan will break up my outline and make me look similar. So I've invested in a load of cardigans but struggling with the confidence to work out what goes with what colour wise.

So today I was wearing dark skinny jeans, brown boots, dark green top. I wore a brown cardigan - was that right?

What colour cardigan would I need for a blue top or a red top?

Neutrals like Greys/beige/stone - black/navy/brown etc are good 'investment' buys and will go with anything.

The main thing is to look at your colouring and decide what colours/tones suit you

Today, I would have worn grey. With a red top, a camel cardi, with a blue top, either navy or grey. Agree a few neutrals will get you sorted for all eventualities.

even finding a cardigan tha isn't in a neutral colour is difficult -

brown cardi with brown boots, and with blue.

grey, i would think, with red, or black.

I wear grey with most colours, definitely a useful colour to have.

Have far too many grey cardigans here Blush

Thanks, will go and get a grey cardigan as it sounds like that would be a good buy.

Try Zara - they have some gorgeous longer line cardigans in at the moment, in really lovely neutral shades - charcoal grey, pale grey, beiges etc. I also got a blue-grey cashmere cardigan there and have worn it loads as it goes with lots of things.

Depends on your colouring, not what colour the top is. Have a look here and get your most stylish friend round to help assess you.
Eg if you were a winter you would do well to go for high contrast rather than dressing down the colourful top.

The cardigans I seem to wear the most are charcoal, light grey, navy and oatmeal

This year Grey is GOOD - you just need to find the right grey for your skin tone :)

Grey and navy are my staples.

I have one black one for work stuff, back when I worked, but I don't really wear black any more.

Do have a lovely berry coloured one too that I just bought to wear with some of my wintery colours.

I have a gold cardigan that is great over a black dress/plain colour.

Also like navy or brown coatigan.

I have navy and grey short/fine cardigans but only really use them in summer.
