I have oily skin with acne scars, open pores, redness, blackheads and angry red lumps on my skin, with dry patches on my cheeks. I sound like something from a horror film now. But, I have tried so many different things. I did use the ketsugo oil control gel for a while, but can't say I noticed a huge difference. Things I've found to be good are my Clarins cleanser and toner for combination skin, no itching, no irritation, not too oily or too dry.
Also, I have a clinique pore minimising primer thing which is incredible. It makes my skin matt and kind of covers it all up. Gets rid of shine, redness and open pores.
Any 'simple'/clean and clear etc products which I've used, I've found to actually make my skin really dry. So the oil problem is still there, but there's also this awful tight feeling which makes me feel like my face might crack everytime I smile.
A great moisturiser is Biotherm non stop aquasource moisturiser. The only downside is it doesn't have any sunscreen in it. It feels quite wet and greasy when you put it on, but within a minute has sunk in, with no shine. Almost every other moisturiser I've used has caused shine which then accentuates my redness and open pores. And I only ever buy oil free ones! In fact, I can't afford the biotherm one at the moment, so I went and bought a much cheaper one from tesco, thinking that maybe my skin would just be normal and be able to handle it. It's an olay oil free daily uv fluid and it's bloody awful. I put it on, my skin felt wet and now it's just shiny and greasy. I've only had it on for a few hours and my face looks red and blotchy. When I use things that make my face greasy, it somehow affects my whole face and makes it red and itchy when then makes my lips look very red (even though I don't put it on my lips) and they start to peel for the next few days.
Every 4 days or so, I use a philosophy microdermabrasion peel. It's basically an exfoliation. You put the exfoliating stuff on first, then a gel on afterwards which warms up. When I was it off, my face looks radiant and feels smooth.
It's an absolute nightmare. I've found this website to be a godsend. I think I go on about it quite a lot on this site, but there are thousands of reviews on there, and they include information such as age and skin type, so you can get an idea of what others with a similar skin type to your own think of it.
Sorry for the huge message, I've just been thinking about this myself this morning. By the way, I buy most of these things from discount make-up/skincare websites or trusted sellers on ebay. I could never afford to buy all of those things at full price, so don't immediately buy them all at full price.
