I am a size 14 (not teeny tiny top shop 14, more like m and s or next 14) , bum not too awful, some muffin top issues but not too horrendous but I have mahoosive thighs and calves. I am told by my style advisor mate that I should look for something slim with some lycra but I haven't got a clue having worn either jeans or wide legged trousers for going out for years. Please do not suggest leggings or jeggings as have tried some on and I look like a pantomime hobbit in them.

I would go for well-tailored bootcut shape. In other words, classic. Fairly heavy, say wool crepe, fabric that will hang well and not crease or cling. Lining can help.

Depending on budget, you could try M&S, Gap and Uniqlo. If you really want to invest, imo Joseph do absolutely the best, genius, trouser tailoring for women. But v.v pricey,(£160 plus) unless you get lucky in a sale.
French Connection may be a good mid priced option. They have all their party season stuff coming in now so you may find something there.
