Girls' short sleeved dresses in winter

I just don't get it. Why do so many of the dresses around this winter for girls have short sleeves? Virtually all of the mini boden dresses have short sleeves (there are only about 2 with long sleeves and they have hoods - don't like hoods on dresses either). Gap also suffers from this and I saw a beautiful knitted dress in Monsoon that I would have bought (despite the price) if only it had long sleeves. I realise it is about layering, but really why? Means they will always have one layer less (fewer?) on their arms than elsewhere. I don't really get the long sleeves under short sleeves look so I am sure that it why it annoys me, but could they not at least make a few more with long sleeves? My DD loves dresses and I am really struggling to find any we both like this year given my aversion to short sleeves in winter. Normally I love little knitted dresses. Where can I find some nice ones?

M&S often have girls' long sleeved dresses. Also have you tried H&M?

tbh my 6 year old (and my 3 year old copies her) loves the layered look. (and when the weather is cold I think they do need an extra layer even if the dress is long sleeved)

Also dd1 has a little ballet style cardigan to go over dresses, they seem to be really "in" this season. I got dh's niece on in Next.

As you say there are a lot of short sleeved options about, tunic style often. Or pinafores for slightly younger girls.

one example at M&S - several more on website

Boden have a stripy long sleeve one which doesn't have a hood.

I also prefer long sleeved dresses but DD has many short ones that get lots of wear with either a top under or a cardi over.

Asda have some and are quite nice quality.

Saw that one long sleeved boden one thanks. Unfortunately it is completely sold out in her size (maybe suggests long sleeved dresses in winter are popular enough to justify making more than one type???)

Will also have a look at M&S thanks, although not sure about the colours in the one linked (I appreciate the problem is as much/more my fussiness as a shortage of long sleeved dresses).

Jojo Maman have a couple of nice ones, although I have always found their sizing difficult.

Jojo maman have a few nice long sleeve dresses knitted, jersey,
fair isle.

There are more to choose from, only go upto age 4-5 though.

No Added Sugar do some lovely ones but they are ££s. My DD has loads and they look gorgeous and wash beautifully.

Yes the jojo ones would be just the thing, but DD is now 5-6 sizing if she is to get decent wear out of it, and I always struggled a bit with Jojo sizing anyway (the width to length ratio does not seem right, although maybe more a problem with trousers that dresses).

Have not looked at Asda as don't have one near me. Just had a look to see if they do online (seems they do), but again there is a high proportion of short sleeves.

Same here! I find it very perplexing, and with adult styles too with 3/4 sleeves in loads of things (esp Boden!)
I've bought this cord one from Land's End. I really like the shawl collared short sleeved one though (if only it had long sleeves!)

Jersey ones look cute from LE too.
