Warm casual coat

Hi,

I am on the look out for a really warm casual jacket to wear with jeans etc for the nursery run and for taking the DCs to the park. I don't want a puffa-style jacket as I am tall, but also have very broad shoulders so look like the honey monster in them! Grin But I do want a water-proof style coat, preferably hip length and something that is a bit more stylish than a walking or ski jacket.

Budget of about £60-70 only, so quite limited.

Oh, and no belts on it as being tall they are always under my bust instead of sitting on my waist! Blush

TIA Smile

I cannot rave about this enough!!

It's not hugely bulky but is padded and warm and waterproof - perfect for the purpose you describe (and it's £29.50 from £99!). Pockets with zips inside and out and very well made.
The pewter is a very light grey (no checks)
There's also a longer version but it's (£63 with discount)

Wow! Thanks for that link! That is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for! What is the sizing like? I'm never sure whether to go for a slightly bigger size so that I can fit jumpers underneath!

Also interested, and good question re sizing??

manicmamma · 25/10/2010 18:25

Thinking of going for the parka..still good buy at £63..
which colour though?.....mmmmmm...
gorehaginhellbum-will it get us through the Winter, Is it warm enough?

It says on the blurb: "Please note: Regular & Petite sizes have a trim fit. If you wish to layer, we recommend sizing up by one size; and the hood attaches to neck of jacket with popper fasteners UNDER the front of placket."

gorehaginhellsbum · 25/10/2010 19:58

I bought a small and am usually a 10/12 (more of a 12) in UK sizes. Plenty of room for layering underneath with that.
Warmth - think when the temps go minus zero It may need a fleece. But am seriously thinking a don't need a down coat now just a cardi/fleece underneath.

Trim???? NO way. Average UK person sizing.

Land's End is generous so go for your usual size if you want to layer.
If you return within a few days they'll refund postage and send an excahnge too.

Will have to look at the hood blurb - just seems like a normal attachment to me for a removal hood.

gorehaginhellsbum · 25/10/2010 19:59

Also, a down coat won't be waterproof so can't have everything I guess (unless you buy a NorthFace Arctic Parka - my dream coat!)

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 25/10/2010 20:06

That coat is fab but I'm a 16/18 round the boobs and a 14 round my hips with slim legs. Do you think I will look stupidly top heavy in it?

Ladyem · 25/10/2010 20:28

Have ordered it in a small in the pewter! The brown also looked nice, but thought grey might go with more. Oooo, I love a bargain!! Grin

Thanks again, Gorehag!! Grin

Hope you like it nowConfused I'll feel horribly guilty if you don't!

I too can't resist a bargain!

gilbonzo - the parka is about 12cm longer, so maybe it would be better proportioned.
Free exchanges though if you don't like the overall effect that the jacket might have. It does have an adjustable waist elastic bit to give a bit of shape if you want it to or just leave it loose.

manicmamma · 25/10/2010 20:58

tempted to go for the longer version...the discount ended on Sunday though...still a good price

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 26/10/2010 07:47

Thanks gorehaginhellsbum. Unfortunately my budget only runs to the shorter one so I'll give it a go and see Smile

gorehaginhellsbum · 26/10/2010 07:47

I have a 10% off code this this Sun, want it?
